On an unrelated note, I was 6 of 8 on my first round picks for my bracket.

The two series I whiffed on were Edmonton/LA and Wild/St. Louis.

I picked LA because I didn't think Smith could give McDavid enough support and I picked the Wild because I thought Fleury would go on a deeper run and St. Louis was the popular pick and I wanted to be contrarian on that one. Wrong on both counts.

I also picked Tampa in 5 games. I thought Toronto was going to blow my entire bracket in the first round.

They earned every break they got

Every game was close, 3 were tied in the third. Panthers were a lucky bounce or someone stepping up and making a big play away from starting to turn the tide. But, even so, pretty much every game, except for a few flurries here and there, had the feel that TB was really in control.

TB took the defense first approach that the Caps gave FL trouble with up to a NJ Devils in front of Brodeur level.

I've heard that old mantra a lot - you make your own breaks. The Lightning seemed to get a lot of breaks in the Leafs series and the Cats series. I don't know how much longer they can keep that up.

At no point in this series did it feel like the Lightning would sweep. The outcome of every game seemed at doubt until the end. Cats had the better end of most of the fancy stats, except the wins.

woulda been nice to see FL play that Lightning team at least one time.
Will we see the Lightening again in game 2? (I somehow doubt it)
