I agree with guile on CDS. He’s always been pretty good with the exception of the beginning of the year after his core surgery. Expect it again wherever he ends up. I’d be happy with fleury at a backup goalies price. I think he would actually be perfect where him and Jarry could do a game for game like fleury and Talbot did. That would keep Jarry fresh. Jarry has showed signs of great play we just can’t over work him, and he needs to be healthy. Give lindberg a couple years and see how he does.
Also I don’t think players don’t like pittsburgh. Everyone who plays here is happy to resign. Look at rakells comments. I think it’s more of how many free agents have we seriously chased. - 10inchTerror
I think its players don't like the idea of Pittsburgh before they come here. We have often seemed to have trouble attracting solid names in free agency, but the players we do get here or in trades have always seemed quite interested in staying. |

Yeah I think this is what’s going on. The organization is very good but the city isn’t super attractive to outsiders so when guys hear “yeah it’s such an awesome org and they great guys great there” they probably think “eh that’s cool but is it really any better than all of the other orgs people say great things about?”
And we do go after impactful free agents. Off the top of my head we pushed hard for and got spurned by Parise, Suter, Hamhuis, and Saad in the past ten decades. I’m sure there are more public ally known ones that I’m missing, and even more unknown ones that no one knows about besides the FO at the time. I just don’t think it’s smart to put yourself in a position where you’re relying on free agency to get an impact guy because it’s very hard for any team, and seems especially hard for us.
Assuming we sign Malkin and Letang, we need two impact forwards. It’s extremely ideal to get one of those done with Rakell since we all know he’d like to stay if possible. Going into UFA needing two guys seems like too much to overcome |

The obvious answer here is a Dumo for Tatar trade. |

IDK... Parise and Suter got waaaay more than Shero offered. I don't remember us chasing Saad. Hamhuis openly stated he wanted to go to the northwest. Pens never had the money to go chasing FA's. I think most FA's make their decision based on money first and family second. Winning environment or playing with stars isn't the top priority. You need to pay the top of the market to get impact FA's and the Pens have never been able to do that.

Look at Dom Simon for example haha. I think a lot of people think they are worth more than they are. Pittsburgh usually can’t offer top dollar. A lot of people just want the money while not being on a poophole team is good enough.

I’ll give credit to hextall that his moves are generally good. Carter was fire his first year. He’s capable and a smart player. I just think 82 games is a bit much for him. Especially filling in as 2c for a good chunk. Heinen was a nice pickup. McGinn is a solid player. I think you could do better with 2.75m but I like mcginn. Rakell seems like a nice fit as well. Friedman I like, brings some zest which this team needs.
If hex could just up his work from 1 trade a year to 2, I’d be a lot happier I think. |

Paul Mart and Michalek were considered two of the best Dmen available as UFA's in 2010. Shero signed them both for pretty expensive contracts.

Just (frank)ed around on capfriendly for a bit and this Rust deal takes a lot of pressure off of us that we may be able to pull everything off. With Rust’s deal, Malkin signed to $7.1 mil, and Letang signed to $8.5 mil, you can sign Rakell to $5 mil and have $3.5 mil for three vacant roster spots (two forwards and a goalie) before any trades. Basically all we have to do is trade one D man and we can make it all work. - Victoro311
I’ve said this quite a few times here before.
We should make it work with Rakell and perhaps Rodrigues and Heinen. We must trade Dumoulin or Pettersson and bring up PO Joseph. It’s time.
Letang and Malkin we’ll get signed eventually. |

The local Pittsburgh media couldnt be any more annoying about Letang/Malkin. Half say we dont have the money (which couldnt be more wrong) and the other half say its time to move on because we've lost in the first round the past 4 years (correlation doesnt equal causation).
I have said it for a year now, move Malkin to wing. Centers like Giroux and Pavelski are playing more and more wing now and both guys are doing fine. I am not sure Geno will be receptive to it, and that's a big part of the problem. You can easily sign Letang and Malkin, trade a guy like Dumo, and still have plenty of money to sign an impactful #2 center like Trocheck.
Rust just threw you a bone. Give guys are much term as they want to keep the cap hit down. |

I know his name hasn't been brought up in a while, but what about bringing in E-Kane on a 2 year deal? He did a little bit of everything for Edmonton this season PP, PK, and averaged 19 minutes of ice time. He could be a good 2nd line option and PP and PK contributor. He was 2nd on their team with 2 SHG and 3rd on their team in hits and EV strength goals. Which is impressive since he only played 43 games and the rest of the team played 70+ |

I do agree with Malkin being a wing. With FLA about to get swept Itll be interesting if they make a play for someone like Malkin. There were always rumors with him there. |

Unless there are secret problems behind closed doors, but the fact Edmonton gm said they will do everything possible to resign him guesses there’s no problems. They took a chance but a hell of a pickup by Edmonton. I think he gets too much for Pitt on his next cheque. |

I think I’d be just as happy to let Erod, Kap go. Trade Zucker and McGinn fir a 7th round pick and let DOC, Zahorna, and Bjorkvist play. Should be able to sign Rakell. If Boyle will sign for league minimum again I’d do that. |

They should easily let Kap walk. I honestly wouldn't even sign him at a league minimum. I don't think he brings any sort of value on the ice.
I'd re-sign ERod if he'd take $1M, but my guess is this is his moment to cash in and I'm sure some team will give him somewhere between $2-$3M. I honestly think DOC is a good replacement. He showed early in the season the ability to play both Center and Wing effectively, so I think he has the potential to be a good "swiss army knife" player.
I'm torn on McGinn. I feel like him being "overpaid" is a bit exaggerated. I think he's overpaid, but not in such a way that it hampers the Pens that much. I think he's a solid bottom-six player, but I'm fine if they move him out, too. I think AZ is a perfect destination for him since they need bodies and need to reach the cap floor. |

I've wanted E Kane here for years... hell, I wanted him INSTEAD of Horny way back when. |
