If they lose to Tampa I guarantee they fire him - ClaudeFather
nah why look at Trotz since Brunette was nominated for the Jack Adams. Wasn't Bill Barber also nominated?

Agree 100%. However, you do not need to lock him up in May. Literally a few hundred players that can do what he does.
Maybe Trotz secretly loves Nick Seeler as a player.

I get the rush to sign him now as I bet chuck got wind of teams ready to pounce. 2 years is also par for the course.

Barry: yeah Chuck I’ll consider coming to Philly as long as you promise me Nick Seeler will be around for at least 2 years. I like that kid.
Chuck: we’ll everyone knows how cautious I am with signing players to lengthy overpriced contracts, as I’ve never really been known to do that either here or in Minny, but lemme see what I can do. |

If the Coyotes offered there 2023 first unprotected would you trade the Flyers 2022 and 2023 first rounders for it? |

if the rumors were true that hextall told the new ownership that his vision for the pens future was something that could not be articulated into the written word, that is perilous but also hilarious.
i know you guys said he liked to buck authority, but jesus. - stayinthefnnet
Well, he could have said a synergistic PC team with nutritionist guided meals 24/7, a consultant (spy) in the locker room and drafting mostly underachievers while trading viable players for meager cap savings for burnt toast and Umbergers, acquiring draft picks and a cocaine dealer for a potential #1 center already on your roster...
Unicorns and paranoia mixed up into one mess.

What else are the Flyers doing in May aside from searching for a HC?

Theres nothing to debate, this wont happen. Armstrong would need to be completely incompetent to move that pick

no need to sign him now. None. Wait to see what is available in a 6 weeks or so. How you defend this organization is comical. 2 years is even funnier.
Hopefully the Zac ext will be next but 3 years. I mean what else do they have to do in May.

What am I defending? They re-signed a 7th D. Who cares? What 7th D are you hoping to sign in the offseason? Either way its going to be some player who cant crack an NHL roster.
Who says they still cant add someone else later. It is not like Seeler cant be waived. |

My point is you seem to be presuming that Fletcher is going to make rash trades and free agency signings. Based on last off season maybe you are right, but I also feel that the moves Fletcher has made since joining the Flyers have been much more calculated than rash. In 2019 I hated the Hayes signing, not because I dislike the player but more because I hated the term and cost. However we needed a 2nd line center given the health and lack of development of Nolan Patrick. Trading for Niskanen was a great move. The Braun and Pitlick trades where also smart moves. In 2020 I liked that Fletcher did very little, just getting depth veterans like Grant and Thompson who both added value down the stretch. In 2021 I liked the Ellis trade and the Atkinson trade, both again were needed moves to be made. Obviously signing Yandle was a horrible move, and trading for Risto was not the best thing either. Dumping Ghost for nothing was clear act of desperation and I believe it would have been better for Fletcher to wait until something better opened up for Ghost. Signing Martin Jones turned out to be a good move also.
So when you look at all the transaction over the past 3 seasons, nothing comes across as rash to me except the Ghost trade. Everything else, whether it worked out or not, to me had good reason behind the move. - jd250
Calculated? Sure, if you want to use a calculator to add up the amount of cap he's added and the amount of draft picks he's traded away, go ahead. Martin Jones was a good move? The guy had a 3.42 GAA and .900 sv % for a bottom 4 team. If signing a backup goalie is considered a good move for a GM, that GM's probably mad some real stinkers. |

They wasted one of our 50 contract slots on someone who could be replaced by blindly pointing at a list of names.
This move speak to the hopelessness of next season within the Flyers upper management |

Due to injury. It covers their bases. They can look for another 7th D in the offseason. Seeler isnt a lock. If they cant land anyone they want, they have Seeler. If they do get someone else, Seeler can be waived and sent down. It is a non issue. His signing is not a guaranteed spot.

I want them to become a team that can win, 2-1, when it needs to amd can also pick apart an opponent that gets frustrated/sloppy. I want them to become a team where there is a culture of accountability. I want them to become a team where players collectively are put in position to succeed. I want the guy who is widely considered the dean of goalie coaches to come along with a stellar head coach.
You may have a burning desire to see the Flyers become the Buffalo Sabres or Edmonton (where there are two bonafide superstars but are still unlikely to come out of their conference). I care about the team game, and the team game needs a LOT of work.
Trotz is the ideal coach to improve that, and he has shown he can coach everything from modest rosters to Cup contenders as effectively as possible. Damn right I want him as coach if he wants to come here. - bmeltzer
Yes please become the Buffalo Sabres. They are now set up with more than philly has had in over 30 years. Please stop lumping buffalo into a negative. Yes the rebuild with eichel didn’t work. Thing is they tried a path and adjusted very quickly.

So let me ask you this, if your #7 dman has to play as much as Nick Seeler did would you want someone who is better than Nick Seeler?
Why the rush to sign him now? What valid reason is there?
Also now that it appears the 1st year is a 1 way contract. Does that not effect the amount have cap space they now have available?

It worked in terms of getting the picks needed. They just had incompetent management. That part failed.
