He made the right read to cover Kucherov in their systems play. The forwards who were no where to be found were the culprits. Lomberg is the culprit on the play who has weak side responsibilities. He never dropped down and just watched the play. You need to learn defensive zone coverages.

No he did not make the right hockey read. There are times you have to alter what you do Cliff when the situation dictates it. He made a terrible choice.

Guess all the play by play and color peeps were wrong in their assessment as well.

I totally disagree in this case, but that isn't unusual. With that amount of time on the clock you need to be aware of the situation. He needed to protect the front of the net. The hell with coverages at that point. The fact is he was in position to guard the front of the net with seconds remaining, and he went behind the net and left the most dangerous player on the ice unguarded. Hockey is a reactionary sport and sometimes you need to adjust to certain situations. I'm not saying that the forward isn't to blame, but with that amount of time on the clock it's about protecting the front of the net cause Kucherov did not have enough time to become a threat from behind the net.

The most dangerous player on the ice is the player with the puck. If he doesn't go after Kucherov, he could come right out for a wrap around or jam play. Hockey is a team sport which means that one guy can't cover everyone. There is the turnover at the blueline and the lack of forward support on the play. Blaming Weegar is absurd.

Weeger made a bad read on the play. Simple as that Cliff.

Tell us all how strong his analytics were in the Caps series.

He made the right "systems" read. Not on him in anyway. He did his job on that play.

Well, apparently you know more than the analysts on TNT which made it clear that goal was on Weegar and I agree with them. There was no reason for Weegar to chase Kucherov behind the net, NONE! Kucherov can't score a goal from directly behind the net.

If you understand the move then you wouldn't have labeled it a bad move. It was a really good move with the position the team was in.

It was a bad move unloading Hartnell for Umberger. Hartnell was a much better players. Maybe if you were going rebuild yes, it wouldve been the right move. But moving hartnell while you are still trying to compete with G, Jake Couts etc....totally wrong move.

And his drafts were at best average. How many top line players did he draft with all those 1st and 2nd round picks. Saying he drafted an NHL player should not be the goal. Who cares if he drafted a bunch of 3rd and 4th line players, theres only so many spots for those guys

If left unchecked, Kucherov can move right in front of the net. What did the analysts on TNT say about the turnover or the lack of forward support on the play? Weegar is not at fault on the play.
