Ouch. At least we're not Fla. 0 For 2022 on the PP and they choke game 2 at home with 3 seconds left after yet another empty PP late. Maybe they should try #70 in front of the net for more than the last 25 seconds of their PP's. - Pags

Their cap hit goes up 10 million due to raises/Yandle buyout and they have less than 4 in space with just 9F and 5D signed. Plus they have no 1rsts, 1 2nd and 2 3rds they next 3 years. Unless they pull 4 wins out of the next 5 games, I'd rather be us right now.

If they are going to bring someone else in it has to happen pretty fast. The new GM will have to get up to speed on where the franchise has been, its players, coaching staff, and the front office people. Then develop a plan to move forward. Hire new coach? Then deal with the Malkin, Letang, Rust contract negotiations, then prepare for the draft (maybe with new scouts that they'll have to hire), then prepare for UFA day in mid July. Thats seven weeks from now. That is a lot. |

"Earlier this season, the Penguins’ new ownership group told Hextall they wanted to see his vision for the team in writing. Hextall, a creature of habit and in the middle of regular-season responsibilities, initially explained that his plan for the Penguins’ future was in his head and not easily articulated by the written word.
He was told to write his vision for the Penguins’ future anyway."
This is (frank)ing comical. Fire him now lol - j.boyd919
Ha I was ambivalent on the side of it’d be kinda weird to fire him before but after that yeah he’s gotta be toast |

Apparently FSN is heavy into analytics. My hope and desire is they don't use the fancy stat that says you have to play your weakest shooter in the top six. Works okay in the regular season, not so well in the playoffs. |

The Flower Shop Network is? haha....in all seriousness, I'm glad they're (FSG) the new owners and excited to see which direction this all goes in.

"WHO WE ARE
At FSG, we view ourselves less as owners and more as stewards of a public trust."
"A Winning Formula
FSG has combined a deep respect for analytics with the intangibles of sports that go beyond the realm of data and science. During FSG’s tenure, the Red Sox have amassed four World Series Championships, one of which ended an 86 year drought. And in less than a decade, the legendary Liverpool Football club was taken from the brink of bankruptcy and restored to its rightful place atop the football world with an English Premier League title, a European Cup title, and the FIFA Club World Cup." |

He already had the job. He was in the position already when the request was asked. How he kept the job? In the the middle of the season, they'll probably deal with it in the offseason.

Part of me respects Hextall kind of telling new ownership to F off. That’s a hockey thing to do. |

I love how hockey fans revert back to this "old school" way of doing things as if that's when things were "good." Having attitudes of the past doesn't mean it's a good attitude to have.
This group bought the Pens for a reason. They want to make sure the people in charge share their vision for making this team successful. This ownership wants to make money and you do that by winning. I don't know many jobs or industries where they hire people and say hey, go do what you want and we'll worry about it later. |

Anyone can feed a line of BS to their boss in order to keep their job. Makes it even easier in writing. Once again you now have a faceless nameless corporate sponsor basically instead of an owner. Proper thing to do is have a face to face interview to discuss the future. Not submit a written assignment. Seems like a bunch of good old baseball boys not understanding hockey culture to me. Also hear they don’t like that Burke uses the F word a lot. |

I think the "hockey culture" you are talking about isn't hockey culture, it is a GM who thinks he can just figure things out on the fly.
If he actually had a succinct long term plan, he would have been excited to share the vision and bring them on board and he would need them to make it all happen. But I take this as he was just planning on figuring things out on the fly and not listen to feedback so he played hard ass to protect his ego. I appreciate hard ass players, but I want a GM who can pull together insights from multiple sources to build an actual long term plan.
And make no mistake, look at what the Pens did this year... seemed too me like he was just flying by the seat of his pants with no real plan.
