I may be foolish, but I thought we would have news on Martin St-Louis' contract extension by now...this is taking some time.

Also, what's going on with Carey Price? He has surely seen that second specialist by now.

Hughes seems to be busy watching the world championship and future Habs first overall pick Juraj Slafkovský.

they said Price would take some time. As for MSL...they probably took some time off and focused on the draft for now

I don't think he's getting that.

Despite the good stats he posted this year, he's still very inexperienced and has yet to prove he can carry the load of a number one goaltender (he got injured this year and wasn't as good when he came back).

He's probably looking at 4M per season on a 3-4 year deal. He might need to take less if he wants to stay on the Leafs.

oh, I was going off what Chris Johnston was saying, l really have no clue what he'll be getting but I did find 5.5+ sounded a bit high lol

Good news right now is that Cayden Primeau is having great playoffs

1.96 goals against average and a save percentage of .940 through 4 games.

Don't worry Stinger, we'll have the best of both worlds next year.

The team will be overall better but will still end up missing the playoffs. They will get lucky and will win the lottery and pick 2nd, drafting the ultimate Russian machine Matvei Michkov.

That's where St-Louis and management need to show everyone a winning culture even if results were to fall short.

We can't afford another last place finish imo. It would create a culture of losing very fast.

yeah, it's one thing to lose a bunch of games, it's another to lose miserably and be completely outmatched every night...

I thought St-Louis did a great job of that early on but you could feel it kinda ran out of steam at the end of the year with the 9 games losing streak.

yup, but it's probably normal for the group to have lost the initial motivation they had with the coaching change, everyone knew the team still wasn't going nowhere, and they just wanted that miserable season to end. I think a fresh start next year could do wonders, even if the expectations can't be set too high...

We'll be much better next year Pat.

Or at least, there will be some actual hype with all the solid prospects that will be at camp.

Including Shane (frank)ing Wright!

I think MSL has a lot to learn at being a coach at the NHL level.

His early change of strategy/approach and getting the team in a positive frame of mind had a huge impact. Near the end of the season, with player having been traded and the overall feeling of a lost season, the team sagged again.

We saw him getting out-coached often, not being able to adapt strategies in-game a few times so I think he heeds to hire a veteran assistant coach to his staff... a Larry Robinson-like coach, who has been there and done it all.

I guess they'll still be a debate about sending Wright to juniors or not for another year... the fanbase has been traumatized with past prospects that were mishandled and/or didn't pan out.
