Usually the guy with the less penalties minutes get it. I assume this is why he was nominated in the first place. Must be among the leaders there. |

I'm really glad Toronto and Boston are eliminated and I can stop caring who wins the cup.
So relaxing to watch hockey and enjoying the nice plays from whoever is playing. |

The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability."
every season there are a bunch of players who have zero penalty minutes or barely any, I doubt that would be the only criteria. |

you'd be fine with Tampa winning again? I'll hate hockey so much if that happens.

I fully expect the Habs to take Wright, but I also think it's not going to be as fun. Then again, I feed on chaos |

It's usually how they vote for that trophee, yes.
Of course if you played 5 games, you won't get it, but you get the point.
It's like the Norris. You can guess who will win most of the time with the defenseman who get the most points. |

Agree. Then again they had to lose players because of the cap, so winning again after that and 3 years in a row would be something, but yeah. Kucherov was a huge douche last year. Other than maybe Perry getting another cup, there's not much reason to cheer for them in my opinion. |

The criteria is how many minutes and how tough those minutes are and the impact you have on your team without taking penalties. Aka...Slavin will win it easily. |

You still did not explain why he would be your pick there ahead of Wright. |

Returning to defend his title from last season is Jaccob Slavin, whose 10 minutes of penalties is downright egregious by his standards, given that he only committed a single, puck-over-glass minor in 2021. Still, Slavin does the impossible in the modern NHL, logging nearly 24 minutes per night against top competition and rarely, if ever, landing on the wrong side of the rule book.
Then there's Spurgeon to round out the group of finalists, whose total of 10 penalty minutes and his role as one of his team's most crucial defenders is remarkably similar to Slavin. Spurgeon scored at the highest pace of his career on a per-game basis in 2021-22 while averaging nearly 22 minutes in Minnesota's top-four.
That's as gentlemanly as it gets.
yup, the logging in "tough minutes" criteria seems about right.

He's better at making his teammates better. Wright is not so dynamic and he's not good enough to carry a team on his back. |

The fact that somebody playing 24+ minutes a night as the shutdown defenseman only took 5 minor penalties in 79 games is pretty insane
