It’s just one of those “right on a technicality” kinda comments that betrays he’s just agenda thumping. We didn’t “waste” the first first on Kapanen. He was viewed as a good late first round caliber prospect at the time and then we used him to get Phil. You only say we “wasted” two firsts on him if you’re just looking to string a sentence together to hammer home that he sucks, which he does, but come on man.

It's a tough pill since David Pastrňák was drafted a few picks later

But in that case, maybe Pasta gets shipped to Toronto and we feel good about the Cups, but dumb at the superstar we gave Toronto.

Yeah I mean that’s just the nature of the NHL draft though. Once you get into the mid-late first it all starts to become a huge crap shoot. The only 1st round whiff I legitimately get mad at is DP over Forseberg because that seemed like an obvious mistake at the time. Most other situations are hind sight

It will be very hard to watch this team with no Geno. Everything we’ve read suggests he’s willing to take less, but if they are balking at around $7M? It’s going to be hard to watch this team.

Oh I agree with you guys, RW is insufferable sometimes. I wish we could get a decent blogger, someone who actually does in-game analysis ala Jesse Marshall.

Is it really a tough pill to swallow at all? I really don't see it that way. Kessel helped win the Pens 2 cups. I'd make those moves hundred times over.

I wish we had some insight on whose the guilty party for why this is so complicated? They have the money and I think we are all in agreement what Malkin's range should be and that Letang should get pretty much anything he wants.

Is it FSG? Hextall? The players' camps playing hardball?

At least you didn’t trade the 1st round pick that became Vasy to acquire a mediocre defenseman you had previously lost on waivers.

I think geno comes back. I think they can resign rickell (who was a nice fit) too. But if i am detroit, i throw a # that starts with a 7 at rust. If i am montreal, its a full court press on letang. I offer him $9.5-10M/yr and bring in local advertisers and pitch how much marketing $$ he, his wife and son can make.

As for dumo, i hope they can off load that last year of $4.1M. Kappy, seems like a nice kid. hard pass though. DeSmith? another person who seems very nice. but i wish him well in his new city.

If letang leaves, who could they sign? Klingberg is a UFA. is there a trade for vince dunn? would vegas trade shea theodore (they are already over the cap)?

I think that fenway wants to figure out if they can sign letang and geno. they are on all of the marketing and i know that season tix renewals are down for next year. for the 1st time since 2004, season tix pricing dropped. my tix went down 10% from this years tix price. fenway hired all these new people to be a concierge for season tix holders. they assist in addition to our standard point of contact for anything we need.

That wouldn’t suit his goal of being the next big advanced stat guy hired. Pens blog? Who are they?

Issue is that guys as good as Marshall get hired by real companies like the Athletic and don’t stay in the free blog realm for very long. You can expect a pay wall for anyone good.

Think you have to be capable of providing some sort of analysis though. Can’t just repost other peoples work.

Well I’m terms of $$ Letang will lose roughly 55% of his salary to taxes in Quebec. So I’d assume 7m in pittsburgh is better or at least equal to 10m in Quebec.

Sounds like klingberg is going to try and resign with Dallas. So as a backup plan, who’s the next best possible Dman after that?

I'd like to think if they couldn't sign Tanger they'd try to sign more than 1 competent D man to make a solid 1st pairing. Not sure who those 2 would be though.

I would love a dman that is a shooter. Not necessarily for the 1st pairing but someone who could take Tangers spot on the PP. Take a flyer on Miller from Buffalo?

I'd rather have a Pens blog at all with anything being said at all about the Pens in it than no blog at all like quite a few teams dont have here on this site. So in that regard I appreciate RWs efforts regardless if I agree with what he's saying or not.
