How come he wasn't as good for the 2 previous seasons then?

Probably because heโ€™s crappy? It was Ottawa and Pit?

Rutherford & Co. are just trying to impress ownership with the 'big changes coming' attitudes.

Bruce knows what's going on.

- LordHumungous

Bruce is talking about being a top 5 defensive team, Rutherford is talking about just overall defending a lot less.

Major changes coming just not with a coach who has a completely different assessment of how the season went.

Pretty used to the "hot takes" crowd. Scrolling past isn't much of a problem

How about this Toronto analyst

Maybe just maybe if Toronto adds Liljgren

Interesting......

Would have been nice to see a better break down of the draft picks. You pick Euro or College players you get 4 years to sign them. CHL you only get 2 years.
Players like McDonough a 2017 draft pick doesn't have to be signed till next season.

Counts man games, did Canucks/Comets have more injuries?

Why did he start at 2016? Would the 1000 NHL games Benning got from his first two drafts wreck the piece?

It was a cute puff piece that the Canucks could make use of their AHL team better. Now they actually have their own AHL team, obviously this year they did use it. There will be many more coming from Benning drafts in the near future.

1.4M cap dump for Tor next season and a 6.9M the season after that. Price just went from them adding Liljgren to also adding a 1st rounder in 2023.

I think it mildly states what everyone already knows, that the organization could do a better job drafting and developing players properly. The insistence from ownership with teams like the Vancouver Canucks and the Philadelphia Flyers that they must be competitive and build at the same time, creates mediocrity.

The Aquilini group forced Trevor Linden and Jim Benningโ€™s hand when they first arrived, in that they had to be competitive as quickly as they could. Now, part of that is their fault as well, as they fully sold themselves that they could do that.

At the end of the day, if they wouldโ€™ve just been more patient with their own draft picks, kids like Virtanen, McCann, Forsling, etc., and not trade away some of those good picks for guys like Gudbranson theyโ€™d probably be more competitive than they are right now.

They don't trade McCann, maybe they never get Miller. Forsling is playing on the left side, no OEL. There are just far too many things that could have happened during that time to say that the team would have for certain been more competitive than they are right now. Especially since Miller and OEL are major factors in today's team.

I noticed from the first few years of Benning, a lot of 5th, 6th, 7th round picks were CHL players that were never signed at all.

Bennings first 4 drafts. 14 picks from rounds 5 to 7 only 5 picks from USHL or Europe. None of the CHLers were signed, 3 out of 5 Europeans were signed.

Since then, 17 picks 14 from USHL or Europe. 3 have already been signed. That number looks to possibly jump to 6 by the end of next season and 8 the year after that.

Like most things Canucks, it's not as bad as many make it out to be but there are a lot of things that sure could be improved upon to make it an elite organization. Which Rutherford seems to be the first GM to get to do that or is capable of it.

As much as I like Euros & NCAA players developing in their leagues it also leaves Abby with less prospect talent. Persson was nice to see go to Kamloops to hone his small ice game. If we had more depth then prospects could join Abby after their stints to join for a season or 2 there.

I lose all interest in an article when the author can't get something as simple as the round a player was picked in, such as;

Gaudette was chosen by Vancouver in the fourth round of the 2015 draft

Gaudette was actually taken in the 5th round. Piss poor journalism, as far as I am concerned.

So far I like all of what JR & PA have been saying. Iโ€™m highly anticipating the 1st big moves. Whether itโ€™s resignings or trades or both idc but something seems in the works. UFAโ€™s signings are undoubtably to come. Here is where I think sandpaper will probably come from. On D I expect OEL or hopefully Hughes will be tried on the right side. Donโ€™t see any key RHD UFAโ€™s out there. Draft wise want to get an early 2nd pick

I get clearing cap, getting younger, Miller's next contract, new MGMT wanting to make a splash bla, bla.

Miller is the Heart and Soul of the Canucks, who's going to step up and fill that void, Bo, Boeser, Petey, no. IMHO it would have to be a very good Hockey Player or an enticing package, not LaFreniere, to pull the trigger. If they trade Miller this board will be, We didn't get enough for J.T.

And Ya I know Gretzky, Bure etc.

And, yes I know Hockey Fans.

No interest in a soft Melander for Miller deal. Definitely not what we need & simply not happening.

I wonder if Persson is going to be signed or allowed to go back to Sweden. Heard he has options to join an SHL club for next season.

Probably helping his case to be signed that Kamloops is onto the conference finals now.

I think his best move is to sign & season in Abby on the smaller ice & against pros.
