The notion of "stunting" young players growth needs a reality check. You don't stunt a player's growth by bringing in other good players. You stunt their growth by bringing in so-called "veterans" who aren't actually very good. - buffalofan19
Agreed. If anything I think that as an attacking defenseman he could really help Dahlin and Power continue to grow in that area.
Also, we are going to have to bring in a big name (translation: contract) or two anyway so we better make peace with it.

As a blanket statement I disagree.
To me, It all depends on the position being filled, right.
Fill a position of need, absolutely it helps.
Bring in a guy where you have a good young guy who needs experience, well that does stunt his growth. |

I've got them at roughly $9M under the cap floor using the Evolving Hockey contract projections for their RFA's and still needing to sign a goaltender, if UPL is on the NHL roster, which is expected. - kingcong39
There's room for a trade, a short term goalie, top 4 D (this is expected via Adams numerous statements) and possibly a top 6 or 9 forward.
I would love to be in a position to not have to Boychuk the roster, just don't know how realistic that is. I think you're trading for the D and signing the G. What if that D is on an ELC? Or under 4M? Cause we know the goalie won't be too expensive. The best UFAs will want large long term deals and that's not of interest to Kevo. Fleury is probably the guy or kind of guy he wants. Low cash, low term. Wildcard to me is how they handle a forward.
Letang and Malkin would be a lot of fun. It's very hard to see why they'd be interested though. What we do know is that Karmanos would be leading those talks.

Personally I don't want Malkin. he's A shell of himself and cat stay healthy anymore. Injuries have caught up to him. Misses 20-25+ games a season now. |

The only way he would come here is on a 1-year deal, basically to wait out a season where certain other teams can clear salary. Even that scenario has about a 5% chance of happening, if that. I'm not convinced he's done in Pittsburgh. - buffalofan19
Good post
Maybe a tailor hall move? Sign for a year, get traded to a team that couldn't afford your full salary. A preferred team like Boston , making sure you get another kick at the cup.
I see the same thing with pk88 and buffalo at the deadline 👊 |

From the blog:
I’m not saying he can’t get better, he can get better, but he’s going to get better when you get better players around him, not because he’s going to get older. - kingcong39

Adams has more power then you think, the Pegula's respect him a lot and listen to him. - SABRES 89
I'm not inside the org but I feel the same. Once Ralph was exorcised, it's appeared that Pegula finally took a step back and let Kev and Jason run the org.

This.
Not holding my breath that it all happens, though.
Imo, bare minimum is a vet goalie and a vet D. |

It's why Marchment and Comrie make sense at forward and goal.
Neither will cost much, nor be long term, and both are solid. |

On paper this makes sense.
0% chance we pay malkin or letang.
Especially letang.
Think terry p. Pays a vet 11 million a year, to play line 2 minutes. When; The last thing this team needs is a overpriced ufa top 3 defenseman
It's a fun (not really fun) or realistic offseason discussion.
Enjoy , I'm out |

True.
If they get Ralph'd, that's stunting. They play the roles they're capable of, put into challenging situations to learn, grow and excel, and also be surrounded by quality vets who are great leaders and good players.. well that's where we want to be.

My point is that you can't refuse to improve your roster just because you want to make room for a guy with four games of NHL experience. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the Sabres swing big and bring in Malkin and Forsberg. Yes, I have a better chance of winning the Powerball this weekend, but humor me. Jack Quinn's development would be just fine playing on a 3rd line with Cozens and Krebs. Nobody complained about Roy's and Vanek's development when they were on a 3rd line. Same goes for Peterka being slotted down. |

The idea of - at his age - not having to be "the man" might be attractive to him. Besides, I have a feeling that he would probably be playing just as much as the first line.

I'm not sure if we're "that destination " for these guys.
Sabres need to bring in guys via trade IMO.
ufas rarely work out
Last paycheck is gonna cash in long term IMO
Probably in Pittsburgh |

That's the ideal route, but a 1 or even a 2 year deal, even at a massive salary isn't going to hurt this team at all. Good cap management is the flexibility to get the higher dollar contracts off your books as soon as possible.
