Look how much better Lil got over a full season. I think you have him and Sandin as regulars opening night and see how they do until TDL.
They are both first round picks, bet on our young talent. - Santo_44
I would only listen on deals for Sandin for like a Chychrun. But, I don't know if he cracks our top 4 if Gio's back and you have to think he's considering a league minimum deal again.
But if we rolled the same D, I'm fine with it. I would just love to have a weapon on the point like Chychrun. Big rangy guy that can hammer the puck. Watching Hedman man, drool city.
I also want another crafty greasy vet on the 4th line. Simmonds and Clifford don't really move the needle, Spezza was pretty ineffective for long stretches too.
Our bottom 8-10 forwards only had 3 EV goals in a high-scoring 7 game series, so that's telling you something about what needs fixing. |

If Sandin/Lil are healthy and Gio is back you probably do not have to address D at the TDL, you can address the bottom 6
I want a really good 2nd line player. That is my Wishlist. |

Yeah, I agree. We had a lot of "show me" tweener guys on the wing this year: Ritchie, Mickey, Kerfoot, etc.
And while I liked Mickey/Engvall/Kampf as a shutdown line, they couldn't buy a goal (EN notwithstanding).
Think Kadri comes back?
91/43/88 would be so hard to play against. |

I didn't see that as much as just no answer to having the shooting lanes taken away. Tavares in the bumper role can be effective if shots get through, but Rielly back there telegraphing every pass... I was hoping they'd try Gio on PP1 and put Rielly on PP2, but Keefe's not going to try that for long enough to matter. |

I read a few months ago that Friedman put out he is looking for 8.5M....He would have to take a huge paycut.
I think they get rid of Kerfoot and get more of a difference maker in the 4M-6M range. Which from cap friendly it looks like there are some options.

No way Kadri gets that kind of money and term at 31 going on 32, but who knows.
With you on Kerfoot. We have so many of those smallish guys on this team, and the other ones bring something else to the table: Nylander has a deadly shot, zone entry machine, performs in the playoffs; Bunting is greasy, draws penalties, fits in with 34/16; Kampf is a defensive specialist, one of our best PKers, etc.; Blackwell is a cheaper version of Kerfoot.
Mickey's probably gone, which is a shame, because he has game-breaking speed but stone hands, kinda bad puck IQ. Hyman had stone hands for years and then put it together, so I'm a little uneasy letting him walk, but at his age, after 20 goal season, and being a Russian (as Don Cherry as that sounds), he's probably gone.
I'm kinda interested in Alex Chiasson for the 4th line. Big, straightforward north-south game. Not a bruiser, but who is nowadays?
I think he stepped up a lot with injuries this year and he's a UFA. |

He put ub Zibby type numbers last year...he deserves some credit but probably gets less. Maybe 7.5M.
I'll miss Mikheyev if he is gone, such a unique player but not worth breaking the bank for.
I'd take a flier on Chaisson.
If cross border restrictions gets waived I see Yzerman and Dubas making a deal that includes Bertuzzi.
Maybe you even trade for him that comes with a long term deal. Either a Kerfoot, Robertson, 1st package or Nylander.
Not a huge fan of trading Nylander but lets say Nylander for Bertuzzi(7x6.5M extension)
You get Bertuzzi for 4.75M this season and that helps out the cap a bunch. |

Penguins insider @Real_RobRossi says on @937theFan that the Penguins offered Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin 3 year deals worth $15 million. And that those lowball offers DID NOT sit well with Sidney Crosby.

Dubas likes squeaky clean character guys, guys like Campbell on the extreme end of things. I don't see him interested in Bertuzzi. |

Minor tweaks, nothing major... As fun as it would be, I don't think this team needs a "Kawhi" type trade - PatC80

Yeah and guys who've made a boatload of cash over the years, cap circumvention back-diving deals too.
5M with 3-year term at 35 years old isn't terrible. |

Okay, so let me get this straight:
Lost to the Cup champs in a close 7 game series but lost in the 1st round the last 7 years...last year was especially painful kinda like the 4-1 Boston extravaganza.
GM and coaches are apparently safe.
The team is still too top heavy with no increase in salary cap for next year so unless a trade from F to D goes down, nothing really changes but spare parts.
Trading block for me: JT would be #1 but obviously that isn't happening so:
1. Nylander
2. Sandin
3. Mrazek
Almost $12m out.
I like the idea of Nylander and Sandin to Arizona for Chychrun and Crouse posted earlier, it seems like a fair deal both ways...maybe they would take Mrazek too if Dubas can grease up a good deal for the Leafs for once.
The line up looks like
Bunting, Matthews, Marner
Crouse, Tavares, ??
Kerfoot, Kampf, ???
Engvall, Spezza, Simmonds (he's signed so?)
Rielly, Brodie
Chychrun, Lyubuskin
Gio, Lilly
Rubins
Kuemper or MAF
???
What else can you do, really????
Get to work Dubas, fill in the RW blanks and back up tender or get (frank)ed female genitalia. |
