To me, the term 'run it back' means sticking with the core group.. I fully expect at least 5 changes to the roster next season, but the core group that Dubas referred to will all stay at least one more year.

I think Mikheyev, Holl, Kerfoot, Mrazek, Clifford and maybe Campbell leave as FA's or are traded.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly will still be here.

- PatC80

If that's what is meant by 'run it back' (no changes to the core) then I'd also want clarity around what we are meaning by "The Core". I assume it to mean Matthews, Marner, JT, Willy and Reilly but I also want to know what specific change or changes people want to see.

I'm genuinely interested in that last piece more than anything.

Stay the course.
Believe up in the core.
Complimentary pieces.
Same (frank)in poop every year.
Same (frank)in result.

So we'll be doing this dance again next May 17th.

It sounded like there are more than 5 players that he included in the "core group" so, who knows.

Dubas' answers on the Campbell situation kind of left you thinking Campbell is not coming back.. Could be wrong, but it sounded like he wasn't giving it much thought..

Change I'd like to see is some of the Marlies stepping up to take winger spots on the team. Top 6 preferred.

I'd like to see Mrazek moved and Campbell back again. I don't think changing goalies at this point is needed but I wouldn't be shocked if Dubas moved on or if JC decided to test free agency. He is arguably a top 2 or 3 goalie available this off season.

I'm open to moving Nylander. I'm less open to move him strictly for a "dman" as many want or picks/prospects and hope to buy a winger in free agency to make the team better.

- Aaron_85

This is a pipe dream imo. The cupboard is bare up front.

I agree with you re. Trotz. That move should have been made if he wanted it. But, nope, not even gonna investigate it. Gunna run it back!

Gotta dump: Mrazek, Holl, Muzzin, Clifford and Simmonds

Gotta trade: Nylander and Kerfoot

Gotta resign: Campbell (as a back-up), Mikheyev and Giordano (on a Spezza deal)

Gotta acquire: Top pair D, top 4D, a shutdown C and Fleury.

Gotta hire: Trotz or Quenneville.

It's a tall order

Oh FFS Canada_Cup isn't getting any younger.
On a side note, he probably remembers 67.

I wouldn't call it bare, Amirov's unfortunate illness does lessen that for the current future but I think it's a fine cupboard for a team in a window to win now.

We don't have the information if Dubas spoke to Trotz or his reps and they could have said they are only interested in X and Y teams. We miss a lot of this info as I'm sure these guys discuss these things at times.

Yes but he was a Habs fan at the time.

And then something went horribly wrong.

Quennville isn't currently allowed and has shown no interest in coming back to the NHL. Let alone would Dubas consider hiring him after removing Babcock and his schtick. Dubas has shown time and again he isn't interested in those personalities. Similar to not wanting DeAngelo for his poop.

I don't think the team is being remade like that. Might as well trade Matthews or Marner too if you're doing a full re-tool and trying to change half the team.

Also, MAF didn't want to be here at the deadline, why would he sign here in free agency now?

Sorry but there is a clear half of this team that is useful and another half that is sub-par or just straight up garbage.

The teams the Leafs have to beat aren't getting worse in the next two years.

The same guys who made this mess shouldn't be the ones tasked to fix it.

What forward prospects do we have on the Marlies that are top six, or even potential top nine?

Robertson.....maybe. Otherwise....it's bare.

It's pretty messy if you're talking about actually winning a Stanley Cup.
