I'm not suggesting he isn't valuable or doesn't have characteristics of a good player. I'm suggesting, lots of teams lose with those types of guys.

Washington won 4 years ago.

I guess it depends on who you consider a comparable.
Who on the Isle do you consider a comparable to Marchand?

I appreciate that Dubas acknowledges he's made mistakes and tries to rectify them.. Like the Ritchie deal..

If they can re-sign Boosh, Blackwell, and Gio, it's a good start to the offseason. The challenges for the Leafs is to find a legit LW to play on the 2nd line with Tavares and solidify the 4th line. Potentially a goalie too if Campbell walks..

It's gonna be a tough summer but I have to believe that the Leafs brass has plans in place.

- PatC80

I like that too. I appreciate a GM willing to make moves to fix the problems they have created.

On contracts, I am not sure Blackwell comes back as he may want top 6 minutes as he did in Seattle but Dubas did say at the deadline they had been trying to get him as a UFA before.
I am unsure on the goalie market. I don't like having to trade for one again. I don't think the leafs prospects are good enough to start yet. That is a tough one I think.

I do like Gio coming back but wouldn't be surprised if he was a Flame again

He is okay but his contract is not worth his play.

Miller would be great for next year but hard to imagine they bring him back at his 8.5M asking price.

Bertuzzi is my prediction. Dubas has been around this guy for the last 3 years and if it wasn't for the vaccine mandates I think he is a Leaf already.

You can make his contract fit with or without Nylander NEXT season. But also you can trade for him and immediately sign him to an extension.

Yzerman is open to trading him and Bertuzzi said that he is open to a change of scenery if a trade comes along.

With how badly they needed to get a top 6 winger last TDL and didn't...really makes me wonder because getting him wouldn't have made sense while the mandates were in place.

- Santo_44

Bertuzzi would be a good add and would fit in nicely on the 2nd line..
There are a lot of good options out there for them.. I am interested to see what they will do..

I can see Kerfoot being moved.. I like Kerfoot, but he doesn't have a specific role.. I don't think he's good enough to be the 2 LW on a consistent long term basis, and he's not strong enough on faceoffs. Kerfoot's good at different things, I guess but he doesn't stand out.. (other than the brutal giveaway in Game 6)

Mrazek. Gonna cost us more assets.

If Jack walks, wtf do we do for a goalie?

- fifty__missions

how about we sit back a little and see how things play out.

I thought getting rid of Richie was impossible

Waaaaay too comfortable for everyone around the Leafs country club

That isn't how Masai conducts business at MLSE.

People should NOT be made to feel comfortable with this. Dubas just doesn't have the royal jelly. Not a winner.

Maybe they bring in MAF or Korpisalo or Keumper? I don't know.. It's all speculation.. It will be an interesting off season for sure

Yzerman has all eyes on the future and he is not afraid to make moves.

a trade with Bertuzzi that also involves Mrazek as he is familiar with DET and they need a goalie for next season to play with Ned.

Would be expensive to add Mrazek but its the price you pay.

It's not good.

All the Kreskins around here convinced we are "running this back" with the major pieces.

If that's the case, the cap situation remains fooked.

Same old, same old bandaid approach.

they are 7,8M under, one has to think that will be used to pay their 4 RFAs (Sandin, Liljegren, Kase and Engvall). they let all their UFAs walk.
so capped out, with Mrazek as their starter. they could trade him (which will cost them a pick or a prospect) but would have to replace him.

Dude. When did Yzerman become a complete (frank)ing moron in your eyes?

He'll take Mrazek - and a high end prospect or 1st round pick.

Since they won they have had 4 first round exits in the playoffs. #DynastyofLosing

Clutterbuck and Martin are the closer guys. Maybe Pageau but I don't know enough of all the players. That team just has that "hard working, bit dirty" play in them.

They literally set a record. No team in the NHL, NBA, or MLB has EVER lost 5 consecutive first round series. Setting records.

It's a Dynasty of losing.

But hey, run this thing back! 👍

- fifty__missions

If winning or losing in the first round is your only criteria then this year’s team is no better than the last. IMO, it’s a much better team. It needs to get better still this off-season and there are challenges, maybe the biggest being in net.

Whats the last contract with 2 years left at less than 4 million that required a 1st round pick or high end prospect to unload.

Honest question.

I don't know either but that was kind of my point with the goalie market this year. Those names don't inspire huge confidence in me as "the guy".

That's fair. But there will need to be assets involved, or salary retained. Or a buyout?

Oh so now your comparing them to other leagues because yes it's been the exact same set of circumstances every single year, in every league.

But hey keep posting the same thing over and over every single day, create your own dynasty of complaining.

After last seasons playoff loss, I wanted this core group to get one more 'kick at the can' because of how poorly they played in Game 7.. I felt that they needed a chance to prove themselves, that they are better than that..

After this playoff loss to Tampa, I think they deserve another chance again.. It was a good series, one in which I feel the refs played a big part in.

The core 5 or 6, or whatever Dubas was eluding to, will be better next year.. Maybe this was their final lesson.. They needed to see how truly hard it is to win..

Like Gretzky and the Oilers after they lost to the Islanders before winning their first Cup.

- PatC80

The oilers lost once in the finals and then became a dynasty. Leafs have not even gotten out of round one with this core for multiple years. How will the core be better? Matthews/Marner are in their prime. JT is getting slower every year. Rielly becomes less effective. Keeping the same core will end badly.

I’d love him to be a Leaf for……right up until they want to trade him at the deadline for picks and prospects cuz he’s oldt.
