Dynasty of losing. - fifty__missions
31 of 32 teams 'lose' every year in the quest for the cup. At what point are they a "Dynasty of Losing"? I get your mad they lost but do you honestly not believe they were any better this playoffs than the last or the one before?
I find it hard not to say they have shown improvement year over year as it relates to playoffs for the most part, especially last year to this year. |

Dubas and Shanny suggesting they don't want to make lateral changes or changes for the sake of changes.
Yeah that's good media talk however I do appreciate that sentiment. Not to make changes for the sake of changes. |

cuz I was interested, I look at the 1st round matchups.
if you picked the team that had the higher reg goal differential, you would have went 7-1
the only team that lost with a higher Diff is the Leafs
naturally - senstroll
Arguably the hardest series in the 1st round too. Maybe Minny and the blues might have been the same coin flip.

They literally set a record. No team in the NHL, NBA, or MLB has EVER lost 5 consecutive first round series. Setting records.
It's a Dynasty of losing.

Yes even if it made the difference. I don't want to have my team win because they have a player who consistently plays the game the way he does from the perspective of having no class nor integrity.
I do realize I'm quite possibly the minority here or in general but that's how I feel. - Cush29

They should have slowly moved out of dead last season by season like 99% of other teams that go through rebuilds and not made the playoffs going into a season with your best players being in their teens.
That way there would be no narrative of losing 5 1st round series because missing the playoffs is better than making it and losing in the first round obviously. |

Caps are at their 4th in a row at this point...sounds like a dynasty of losing with Ovechkin.

Matthews was barely learning his timetables 18 years ago. So (frank)ing irrelevant to building a team for next season for the best possible results. |

And to be fair to you, I did say if someone offered Nylander for JT Miller would I do it? I said yes. - Aaron_85
No worries you explained you reasoning perfectly.. And there is merit to your position.
I just think Chychrun allows you to walk from Gio ..
And I think he's better than any current Leaf D.. that's before you add in his contract #, term and age.

You do make valid points. I do like his term and salary, I just don't know if he's that much better. Would I be super upset if the trade was done? No. I think there could be other deals or other ways to improve the team.
Also, depends on the cost to the leafs. Nylander straight up? I'd be considering it. Reilly? No.

Waaaaay too comfortable for everyone around the Leafs country club
That isn't how Masai conducts business at MLSE.
People should NOT be made to feel comfortable with this. Dubas just doesn't have the royal jelly. Not a winner. |

Washington has a guy like that. They lost. So does Boston. They lost too. Islanders have one or two and they didn't even make the playoffs. Winnipeg does and they didn't make the playoffs either.
Let's ignore how many teams lose with these players every year as well.... - Aaron_85
Sure - but - "with a player like that" Bruins have been to the Finals 3x and won once.
Not gonna be there every year unless you have a stacked team. Bruins are hardly stacked. |

Its nice to see you are one of the few on here with that perspective, such a nice change of pace compared to last season |

Dubas did say if a trade makes sense, or makes them better they'd look at it.. Did you expect him to say "Heads will roll.. We're moving on from the core guys.." |

Yeah he said he is not trading for worse players with lower cap hits so he can add other worse players with lower cap hits.
If Nylander is traded its to get back a similar or better player with a lower cap hit.
Only way I see it is if they add an older player or a player with 1 year left so the value evens out. Hard deal to make. |

a lot of fans wanted the Leafs to give an honest effort and show that they care enough to put it all on the line. I think they did that.
Most fans can live with a loss if they feel the team gave it their all.
I dont need heads to roll, as long as they keep trying to improve. Shanny/Dubas I am satisfied with them.
also this. they do a lot of things every offseason.
its possible we have another goalie next season
Ryan
@ryanfancey
The Leafs never actually "run it back" so I dunno how people can criticize them much for that. They fired Babcock, signed Brodie, traded for Muzzin and Gio, let Hyman go, found Bunting and Kase, ditched Freddie Andersen. They do quite a bit of tinkering.
