I'd keep Lafrenière if I was the Rags.
You pick a guy first overall, you usually don't trade him after 2 years. Especially when you barely give him any powerplay time.

I wondered where the credible origins of trading Lafreniere came from and I traced back to this comment at the trade deadline.
David Pagnotta
@TheFourthPeriod
"Patrick Kane has told #Blackhawks teammates he doesn't want to move right now; #NYR are willing to trade Alexis Lafreniere in a big move."
I believe that Lafreniere will become a huge NHL talent and I think the Rangers would make a huge mistake in moving him. But, it also gives you an idea of how valuable a good contract can be in trade negotiations. |

30 goals, 80 points, signed to a decent cap hit.. Yeah there's no market for that type of player - PatC80
34 goals 81 points, but I wasn't counting. |

JT is the one that needs to be moved (IF someone is being moved) - he's a huge cap hit and is overkill for 2C. He's not coming close to earning his 11M - regular season or post-season.
But there's that tiny problem of NMC... - Nasty_Duck

Just saying that the Rangers have a lot of forward depth, Lafreniere's 20, but he is only getting about 14 minutes of ice time.
Chychrun would be on the top pairing. Plus, he's still only 24.. |

Yeah well my point still stands.. 30+goals and 80+ points will get you a 7th rd pick in 2025.. Well, only if you're Kyle Dubas. |

That's right, Max waits 6 years to trade his first overall.
But wait, if it was Max he would have drafted Laine. |

Will Gio stick around and if yes at what cost? He will be 39 this fall, don't expect him to get 6.75M again. How much will Soup get if he sticks around? He should get a decent raise from his 1.65M cap hit |

Nylander is a very good contract. Leafs would not have difficulty moving him. I think it would be a mistake unless they got something very substantial in return.
Simpson (Ottawa media) speculating that Mikheyev will be highly attractive on UFA market. |
