This will be an unpopular idea, but if the Pens can unload Dumo, Zucker and McGinn, they could basically take Dadonov off VGK’s hands for a low price since they need to dump salary.

He had a pretty solid season and If the Pens can’t do much in FA, he’s a decent option IMO.

Weird how shooting percentages work like that lol

Even if Letang is a priority I am not sure they can afford him. Dude had a career year. Hes going to get paid.

I'd say that's beyond gambling though our prospects aren't that good. Who moves up when you have a couple injuries? Can't just cut depth to have a nice looking top 6.
- Tojo.

It’s all under the guise that the Pens won’t be shy to trade other top futures to make the moves they need.

Radulov is as cooked as cooked can be.

I think Rakell gets in the low $5M.

I’m not opposed to the rest. I think SEA is a good fit for Zucker.

Yeah they should add more players in their mid 30's. Its worked great the last 4 years.

It's just so easy to add young players in their mid twenties in their prime under contract with other teams while they put up great numbers. All the teams do it. Why haven't the Pens?

Clearly they just want to make life harder on themselves.

I think Radulov is a very bad choice though. He’s just awful now. I’d rather play a WBS guy.

I read most of the Rust quotes now. I’m not sure why anyone would think that means he’s out. I think it’s pretty clear he’s saying he’ll stay if the Pens do right by him.

IF you're going just add more of hte same and be a fringe playoff team it would be better to just tank and build the stock up. You wont be a contender so you wont even attract the talent you need in FA.

So giving Geno 2 actual top 6 wingers in Tatar and Radulov, instead of 2 3rd liners in Heinen and Kapenan, and improving the forward depth is adding more of the same? Okay buddy, head back to your cave.

You can do that so long as Malkin takes a cut to stay here. Cap makes things difficult. Geno is cooked should have traded him 2 years ago.

I read them as they already talked and they arent close on the numbers. So this was Rust justifying why he is about to leave. I could be wrong.

On Elliote Friedman's podcast yesterday, he said Rust and the Penguins had moved closer together on a deal, but they were still apart.

I think you can get similar production out of Rakell next year for a lower price than what Rust will cost.

Define awful.

Because Radulov still had an xGF% of 51.40, HDCF of 53.33, SCF of 51.74%.

On ice shooting percentage of 6.16% and on ice save pct of 91.95% sank his actual raw totals.

Not saying he's the best option, but he's definitely not a very bad choice when you look at his underlying numbers.

Yes, PPG players carrying around 3rd liners are cooked. Must be new age thinking. Must be a 2PPG player to be relevant.

Probably but Rust is the superior 2 way player.

His production is awful. I think the Pens can do better for $2M. I’d still rather roll the dice on DOC than pay him $2M.

Gotcha. So having 1 year of shooting percentage regression to abysmal means nothing to you? Dude was shooting 13% his entire career, and has one where he's shooting 4%, and that means nothing? Or Quality of team mates?

After being inserted into the lineup around the midway part of season, when everyone else is in midseason form, he definitely looked a bit slow and sluggish a lot of games after a major knee injury then surgery, injured all summer and no training camp...still scored at a 40 goal full season pace and ppg. I cant call that cooked even though he wasnt looking like himself a lot of games. Geno has always been very mental with the game too, gets down on himself a lot. I think you're going to see a bit more mobile Geno in October after a full summer healed and full training camp...where ever he is.

I'm down with trying someone like Rad for 2 mill, for sure. Hell, you might even get someone like him, Geno and another depth player for the same cap hit. If he wants 20 mill for 3 years that's around 6.66 + 2 for Rad and you sill have just shy of a mill in space saved over his current cap hit. If he takes less than that you have enough to sign another Henein type. Geno could want more though, of course.

Maybe I didn’t read everything. Some of it sounded like typical lip service, but nothing I read seemed to strongly indicate anything other than he’s waiting for the Pens offer and he hopes it’s fair.
- Rinosaur

I'm with ya on this one. I dont get he's a definitely gone vibe from today at all haha. If he can get a price he's comfortable with he probably wont move his family and life elsewhere.

Letang says he wants to play for 4-5 more years. Give the man a contract. Add in an extra year or two to lower the cap hit if you want... it's going to be nuts if we let this guy walk.

Kris Letang said his contract status stays between him and the team.

"The main goal has always been to stay here and play in Pittsburgh. I certainly tried to help build something good here and want to keep it going."
