What do you think of the Dallas Stars as a potential trade partner with the Jets for Scheifele? They need the offence, we need the defense. Scheifele fits into their window, maybe they would be interested in having Dillon back as well

When speculating where Mark might go, one has to eliminate some of the teams you don't think would work. For me they are:

- contending teams within our division - Colorado, Minnesota, St. Louis and Dallas

- rebuilding teams - Anaheim, Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo, Montreal, New Jersey

- teams with salary cap issues unlikely - Toronto, Florida, Tampa Bay (unless they want to deal Sergachev), Vegas, Calgary (unless Johnny Hockey walks)

- teams seemingly not a good fit - Columbus, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Chicago, Calgary, Edmonton

So that eliminates over half the field, and let's not forget that Scheifele has a 10-team no trade contract.

Hardest part when speculating a trade is "do the Jets want a centre back in return or are they preparing Perfetti for that spot?"

I think the Rangers, Islanders and Kings are the three most likely landing spots. But I think the Bruins, Caps, Flyers and even the Pens will have Chevy's phone number as well.

Even the Coyotes might have some interest and if they were to offer Chychrun (yes LH d-man I know), Schmaltz and a 1st - maybe plus - for Scheif, a LHD prospect(s) and Schmidt, the Jets would have to listen (you can't hope to contend with a $5.5 million 3rd pairing d-man on your roster IMO).

But the Kings, Rangers and Isles have some interesting pieces who would seem the best fit.Names like Pulock, Wahlstrom, Raty, Chytil, Schneider, Kakko, Vilardi, Clarke, Grans, Turcotte, plus picks come to mind.

Of course we're speculalting on dealing an elite scorer so we want some very good pieces back. Who knows, perhaps if Barry Trotz is hired he may say "Don't trade Scheifele, I can handle him - I handled OV in Washington and look how that turned out. I want some scorers to work with." And Mark can score!

Yes, definitely the man I want. He is a proven winner - and has shown for many years that he can make contenders out of teams, that on paper, seemingly have little hope.

Jets would be, what, 15-20 points better as soon as they sign him?

P.S. - I also like Logan Stanley. I know he had some rough nights, but he also showed some flashes of good things many can't do. He does need consistency for sure, and I can see why others don't share this view.

some pure speculation:

What if the reason Lou fired Barry was Lou's way of releasing Trotz to sign closer to home? Trotz recently lost his mother and his father is obviously advanced in age and he may have expressed a desire to be in the area. He might even have some winnipeg jets pajamas from his youth. Is it all a formality that started taking shape when Maurice left and it after it looked like Lowry isn't the long term solution? Jets are at a crossroad that makes opportunity for a career coach to come home and Lou may have let him go not because of being unsatisfied with his work but rather to 'do him a solid' out of respect for the man.

Probably did not have to "fire" him, could have just mutually agreed to terminate the contract ??
