The Leafs are a very good team and they do not need to make major changes.

Goaltending and defense was good enough to win against Tampa.

Wait until midseason or the trade deadline and do what the Bolts always do. Trade for the 3rd line player that will give you an outstanding defensive game against the opposing team's better players. This year Tampa got Nick Paul, last year it was Blake Coleman.

Best UFA signing of last summer was Phillip Danault by the LA Kings. An elite defensive forward is not glamorous but they do help you win hockey games when it really matters.

They did that pretty much this past season, added Lubush, Blackwell and Giordano at the deadline. Also signed Kampf as a depth defensive players...poop doesnt always work.

Danault is probably the best, but as you see it doesnt always work.. Ed still moved on.

I personally really dont care what they do this off season. it came down to inches and TB made it just a bit further, they got a lot of the benefit of the PIM play, I assume cuz champs.. little ticky tacky poop they can get away with. it all adds up and matters in the end. esp in a game 7, when a goal gets called off..

credit to the leafs tho, they do have a knack for choking it away in elimination games. there is a template for shutting them down it seems

To all of you "this feels different....let's just run it back...again...next year" people:

You've accepted a loser's mentality.

I'm not buying it.

They could not step up. Their PP killed them. Again. And they simply could not close.

They lost in the EXACT SAME WAY.

game 7 they def lost the same way, TB just clogged things up and didnt let them get a lot of HD chances. Vasi did the rest

Game 6 was different imo. they had the lead with 10 mins left. that was the time... but it wasnt meant to be, for some reason...5 on 3

I feel like they would have won game 6 in reg if that whole high stick that didnt happen sequence doesnt happen. just feels so leafy

Game 6 was even worse. You're buying into a loser's mentality. They had their chance to close and couldn't.

They found a way to lose rather than win. Look at how Tampa played the 3rd period in game 7 with a one goal lead vs. how the Leafs played the third in game 6 with a one goal lead. Not even close.

We found a way to lose. Again.

i guess..but some things that happen in a game are out of the Leafs control, a player on TB pretended he got a stick in the face, and it worked. the way TBs PP was going at that point, a 5 on 3 was a killer..they mounted the comeback, got the lead late...

the shots in the series were dead even (+1 for leafs), the goals in the series were dead even (+1 for the leafs). a couple calls pushed one team over the top.

oh well

Leafs had to kill a phantom 5 on 3 where Tampa was able to score.

Tampa didn’t have to kill a 5 on 3 in the 3rd when nylander was tripped because of reasons.

Tampa did not put themselves in that position.

Loser's mentality to buy into that narrative.

Bottom line - they didn't get it done.

I agree with this. There was a stat that leafs are like 0-23 in elimination games.

Seeing Rielly just skate the perimeter with no threat was tough to watch. Just looks like there was no urgency and they freeze up.

Thanks - I was sure I deleted it but mea culpa it appears the delete didn't take. I have deleted it since and will say 2 things:

1. The "report post" function here is still broken so if anyone sees a post that needs attention pm me or Dozzer and provide us with the specifics and loction (what blog, what page) for us to look into it please and thanks.

2. We are human and miss things. That does not give anyone the right to come here and trash us or use profanity towards us. We don't allow it to be that way against other posters, why would anything this it's any different for Mods?

It won't be tolerated period. Full stop.

I thought this Leafs team was, without question, the best one since the Dubas/Matthews era began.

Honestly, if it was possible, I'd roll with the exact same roster next year feeling very confident they could have a better result.

Unfortunately, with the Rielly raise, the RFAs and the UFA's due for a raise as well it'll be close to impossible to keep everyone.

Of course getting rid of Mrazek would help alot but how big of a pick will they have to lose just to do that?

And you suggested in another post Nylander might be the one to go. While I'll agree it feels like he's the most likely of the "big 4" to be moved, I don't think it's the right move because he's the biggest bargain of the bunch and I'm sticking to my guns saying he keeps scoring very big goals for the Leafs in the playoffs.
