“Patience of the fanbase is wearing thin”? Buddy, my patience was thin years ago!! Last year was the last thread……and yet, this year I still defended them….they were kids, still learning, they’re different now! They’re all grown up and learned from the experience and wait till the playoffs start “this” year, I tried to convince people!! Yeah ok! I can no longer defend them, they’ve let me down so many times! And to say that Dubas and Keefe have job security……please! We have a declining Tavares that we can’t trade, a declining Muzzin, a goalie in Mrazek making close to $4mil that can’t play, another goalie who is a ufa and will cost much more, other Ufa’s that will leave for more money, Sandin and Lilly who are due a raise…..and we will have to bridge them because we can’t afford a longer term deal…..and we will end up paying premium for them in a few years because of it…..our prospect and draft bank has been dealt away!! Blah blah blah etc etc etc. And Dubas doesn’t need to worry about his job you say!!?? This team didn’t even show up in game 4 in Tampa, blew a lead late in the game to lose in OT in game 6, and couldn’t score in game 7……..in 3 of the last 4 games against Tampa they didn’t get it done!

The kicker…….Vaseline didn’t even stand on his head and carry Tampa this series, and on the other hand, Campbell played amazing at times!! No, the Leafs weren’t as close as you think on this one!

Holy Mackinaw the Leafs tanked to draft Matthews to get zero playoff series wins. Couldn't happen to a more deserving fan base. Is that Karma or what.

I wouldn't bet on Vasilevskiy ever being that bad again but I could easily see Campbell being inconsistent again.

I don't hate Campbell but he's Reimer 2.0 to me. Nice guy but a back-up.

If they had Fleury at an average .906 SV%, they probably win.

- Rare_Jewel

well, aren't you the clever boy

yup, the difference between Soups .897 and your .906 is actually 2 goals - and if, and that is a big IF, that difference would be in last nights game alone...
...the Leafs are through to the 2nd round.

goddamn, you're a rocket scientist or something??

Not necessarily, our players are still improving and I wouldn’t think the bolts will be as good.

We also have 2 young d who should be better next year.

- shack67

I doubt those natural improvements can make up for having to sign 6 UFAs and 4 RFAs with only 7.8 million in cap space.

Some seriously big changes need to happen in management because they have 2 more years left with Matthews before he's a UFA and they can't afford any more mistakes.

If the defense is very strong, you can get away with a below average goalie. If the goalie is very strong, you can get away with a below average defense. But a below average defense and below average goaltending gives you what the Leafs just got.

I know it seems simple but the Leafs just haven't figured it out yet.

Who do you think you’re fooling. I’m a leafs fan in a leafs thread and I’ll voice any opinion that I have on my (frank)ing team.

You didn’t like my take because it doesn’t fit your narrative that Tampa is twice as good as the leafs. Suck my Richard.

You have serious troll OCD and you need to get counselling for it, literally no one who cheers for another team can post anything in here without you throwing a tantrum that they're a troll. You have 15 troll accusations a week, It doesn't have to be this way.

I don't really buy this "it feels different" this year narrative.

You know what feels exactly the same? poopting the bed on special teams....again.

It cost us the series.

Leafs are 0-18 on the powerplay in elimination games.

Sure, run it back next year with the same crew....again.

Expecting something different to occur??

From last blog as I went back and read everything.

To those of you who decided to chirp about the moderating here or the fact we aren’t here 24/7.

How about you put aside your anger and remember this is a volunteer, non-paying gig and instead of whining you appreciate the fact we are here as much as we are - the alternative is we just don’t do it at all. Is that preferable?

If you or anyone else has an issue with the amount of time there isn’t a mod here do something productive about it instead of just acting like a spoiled child and whining.

Feel free to request to become a mod and see how much work it is.

This is the crap that honestly just makes me want to say screw it and just stop moderating entirely.

Kinda disappointing when the #1 PP can't get a PP goal when they really need it.

They needed major changes after the debacle last year and put it off. Time should be up. Things need to change.

If there was cap space a couple changes could make a big difference. But since there is no space I think a couple big decisions will need to be made. I don’t think they’ll return with a similar team next year.

As will I continue to comment on my 2nd favorite Team... I didn't care for you take because it was wrong, weak and ignorant... Tampa is not twice as good as the Leafs ... that's absurd...

As for the Richard offer.. no thanks.. Have a blessed day.

What should happen:

Fire Shanahan, Dubas and Keefe.

Trade Nylander, Kerfoot, Muzzin, Holl, Mrazek and Simmonds. (22.7 million combined)

What will happen:

Nothing.

- Rare_Jewel

While I would not mind a total overhaul of the front office and the coach, you have to consider Matthews. You need to do everything to keep this guy. Wholesale changes throughout the organization aren't going to help.

Actually, after this much losing, I suspect nothing will help.

He's gone, win or lose. The open market will provide him with more money than the Leafs can give him.

All you can do is make the best run you can make in the 2 years you still have him guaranteed. Or, cut your losses and trade him after next year if you can't put together a strong enough team in time.

But even without the idea of keeping Matthews, this management team has gone as far as it can go. Their time is up. They got the franchise to a certain point but now it's time for somebody else to put them over the top.

It could be as small as hiring Trotz as coach or as big as Bowman to be the new President. But something needs to change above the ice so the decisions on the ice are the correct ones. Too many mistakes have been made and there's no more room for error anymore.

Always great to see the trolls out in full force after a Leafs loss. Gotta love it when Jets, Sabres, and Habs fans come out from under the rocks they’ve been hiding under since the season ended.

I will continue to decrease watching Leafs games, and actively supporting this team until post season success is realized.

I expect some changes this off season. Nylander and his incomplete efforts need to go, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Marner sent packing for a defensive upgrade. Matthews is untouchable, Tavares can’t be dealt.

How exactly? The Leafs can, and will back up the Brinks truck for Matthews. IMO the only way he leaves is if he wants to.

This is all... wrong... On a lot of levels.

You're talking about MLSE. No money? They will literally fire anyone out of cannon into the sun to pay Matthews whatever he wants. Any suggestions they can't afford him are ridiculous. That's before you consider that the guy will have made over 70 million in salary alone prior to that point in his career, would it not be a little narrow minded to assume his only consideration is money?

As for the management group, I mean ooof. This is going to be the biggest tell of whether a person is capable of having a mature measured response to this loss all summer. Because if someone is that jaded that they can't see the steps forward this management group brought the team this year, well, that's all you need to know. Is the assumption here that a new GM wouldn't come in and put years of work into implementing their own footprint? They're just gonna come in and make a couple finger snap moves and it's straight to the cup hey...
