Dubas' has a loser's mentality. Fans have bought into it. Some fans anyway.

He's no Masai Ujiri.

That guy would trade his mother to win.

- fifty__missions

To me this is just a terrible take, no GM has a 'loser mentality' they all want to win and it's obvious from watching Dubas he wants to win as much as anyone. The only exception is perhaps the obvious tank job GM that happens.

Ujiri has won 1 championship, and this year the Raptors bowed out in the 1st round - getting to the top of the mountain is exceptionally hard and staying there even harder, just look at how the Capitals have faired since they won the cup as a prime example.

The fact Tampa has won back to back cups and is as good as they are still despite losing a full line that was a key piece to their last cup win tells you just how good they are - and the Leafs were right there with them.

I just don't buy into the 'nothing has changed / this is the same loser Leafs team who cant' get it done narrative being touted by some. They are far from that team and when your reading about that being accurate from non-Toronto based media, hearing it from players from other teams one has to think maybe there is some accuracy to it.

More Friedman: Don't expect a long term deal with Sandin or Liljegren, thinks both end up with short term deals in that ~$2m range.

Also doesn't sound like Campbell is back. Friedge says Leafs opened with ~$2.75m initial offer, which was far below Campbell's.

Wow. Would not super surprised if JC did not return.

Great guy, good goalie…but it’s fair to not be confident in having him as your starter for a deep run. And I’m not giving him much higher than Driegers 3.5M cap hit.

id be a bit surprised if Jack wasnt back..but thats a big question mark then. who is in net?

Friedman on 590 says that he thinks the Leafs will make some changes, particularly says that they'll be looking for more tenacity in their top-6. Also has some questions for where Tavares plays in the lineup next season, either the center or wing.

- Santo_44

I think anybody not named Mathews, Marner, JT and Nylander will be explored.

Aren't Sandin and Liljegren both RFA with out arbitration rights?
So they either accept the 10% increase ish or sit. I don't think they will sit a way for a better contract.

- dmnted

Leafs don't want them to sit.

Holl is probably gone and one of Boosh and Gio too. They need them both in the lineup as regulars on opening day.

I see Pittsburgh lost in OT yesterday and lost the series while being up 3-1

How Leafy is was that.?

- dmnted

Well, they had so many injuries and 3rd string goalie I believe.

Dubas tried to get MAF at the TDL...I don't know what he is thinking but its a for sure thing(thanks Gm Davidson) that he was not completely confident in Campbell.

Do they go Kallgren/Woll backup and get themselves a legit starter?

MAF? Kuemper? Varlomov?

An interesting one would be Carter Hart.

Move JT to the wing, sign Kadri back?
Trade willy, acquire Ehlers, saves 900k and extends an extra year

Agree.

But on the flip side it will be explored but only a few changes will be done.

New goalie, more jam in the top 6 over Kerfoot and Holl gone. Thats my prediction.

I actually think this is possible.

Kadri bleeds blue, he put some soul into his write up last night about his time as a Leaf.

What does he get though? He would surly get more on the open market.

They could have both Sandin and Liljigren signed for 1 Mil each for 1 year and then they'll arbitration rights.
I think they will either trade or walk away from Engvall as he will cost between 1.5 to 2 mil cap hit.

Calgary should be heavy favorites I agree.

And Dallas was an underrated team coming into the playoffs. They really came close.

- Scabeh

They came close because they had a goalie that had to make almost 100 more saves than his opposite.

Sure or maybe the back to back champs were unhappy with how THEY played in game 3 and decided to change how they would play in game 4. Teams adapt during a series and both Tampa and the Leafs did, that's why until game 7 no team won 2 in a row and why it went 7 games.

Frustrating - 100% but it's what good teams can do and do, let's not pretend this is the same and blowing a 3-1 series lead or some of the other post season failures. To me this year was totally different and I really do think if they had drawn someone other than Tampa they are in the 2nd round. Just my opinion.

- Cush29

I think we would've been ok with a loss with a real effort.. That isn't what I was getting at. It was the total no show, Leaf's mailed in Game 4, that's what was bothersome.

Someone made the point that either Lily or Sandin may, may have to be included to get rid of Mrazek ... ouch.

I am for it.

I have my doubts Dubas would make the reunion but I think Kadri would welcome a return.

He turns 32 next year. He can probably get 6M-6.5M on the open market.

Do the Leafs give him a longer term deal to get the cap down?
