Just watched Thompson lose his stick in the 1st period, scrum, puck all around out front. Normally you’d see the butterfly without a stick. Nope…he preferred to play upright. - Woderwick
Bold strategy, I'd totally drop to Bfly in that situation if the puck is in close to the net. |

Keep watching but stop caring. It doesn’t matter in the big scheme of things. People get too emotionally invested into a friggin game. These over paid a-holes don’t deserve a bit of loyalty. Yet people bow to them just because they wear a uniform of the team your dads most likely cheered for and tainted your thinking towards. Just chill and enjoy. Or walk away like you said. |

Getting Bergeron would be huge.
Maybe that's the "Kawhi" moment? |

MAF has more experience in big games, but who knows if the result would have been different.. Campbell was not the reason they lost..
All things considered, the difference was Tampa's 4th line was better and their bottom 6 in game 7 was better..
None of the series is on Campbell.. The challenge for Dubas is to try and find the right bottom 6 mix..
I hope Blackwell stays, Kampf has been better than expected.. Engvall and Mikheyev played well but didn't produce anything outside of the 2 EN goals..
The Leafs need a reliable 4th line.. Hoping that can be figured out this offseason - PatC80
Fleury was literally benched when Minnesota's season was on the line. |

I dont agree with that part, im mean I gripe about the cap hits, cuz that affects the team they can put on the ice, but I dont care what actual $$ they get, and I dont think they are bumholes for not winning. im not into calling them names and stuff like that

There were some reports that the Leafs were trying to get a deal done with the Hawks for MAF.. Just saying, even if Fleury was a Leaf, the result could have likely been the same.. I don't blame the series loss on Campbell..

The series came down to Tampa's 4th line being better and officiating.. Some really, really weak calls against the Leafs. |

After reflection of the Leafs series, all the disappointment and resentment, I've looked at what is needed for the Leafs to succeed.
Players who can go: Kaše, Simmonds, Holl, Mrázek.
Players who will probably leave in free agency: Mikheyev
Players who might leave via free agency: Campbell, Giordano
What needs to happen? Moving out an injury prone Jake Muzzin. Replace Campbell by trading for an underrated goaltender: Alexandar Georgiev from the Rangers. Cheaper and younger.
Make a significant trade: Nylander and Sandin to Arizona. In return: Jakob Chychrun and Lawson Crouse. A young stud defenseman that could someday win a Norris Trophy. A power Left Winger to play with Taveras, with Crouse. A modest cap savings, but a huge upside.
Sign Spezza at the minimum, let him get his 1000 points, have him retire with dignity and a coaching position in the organization.
Leafs also need to address the third and fourth line with upgrades. Blackwell is good, and David Kämpf is found money. Kerfoot should be kept. It will be up to Dubas to backfill the roster. Timothy Liljegren needs to play full time. Sign Giordano to mentor LilJgren, offer him a 2 year 5.75 total package.
Backup goaltending? Källgren may be good enough to fill the position. Watch for a bargain.
The constants: The top line, Rielly, Lyubushkin, Brodie, Tavares.
This team isn't that far off from being tops in the Atlantic, once Florida hits the Cap wall and has to move assets, after this year. A big trade, a modest trade and cap savings could make this team better.
Thoughts?........ |

I think the PP design is as much of an issue as those on the PP. They are way too reliant on the pretty back door play or 'bumper pass for a snipe" on the PP which works in the regular season but as we know definitely does not in the playoffs.
So you need a real threat from the point, a guy with an absolute bomb who can either let it howl and you look for a goal on him beating the goalie or a tip or a rebound and if teams have to respect that shot it opens up the other plays much more.
Lot of folks here saying GIO on PP1 made it look much better than Reilly (I agree) because of that threat but the guy came over trade deadline and didn't see PP1 time until way late in the year/playoffs so not nearly enough time for others to adapt their pp game.
I guess we will see how it plays out but Reilly at the point on PP1 is pretty m'eh the majority of the time. - Cush29
You need a guy who can 1 time a pass to Matthews like Kuch does for Stammer.
Kuch has a lethal shot and a more lethal pass IMO

Saw some Ehlers speculation on this thread. Never heard his name being floated by the Jets.
But, the Jets have floated the name of Pierre Luc Dubois. Big, physical, plays strong defense, He is an RFA and likely looking for money in the $8.5m range.
Wonder if there might be an off-ice or other issue? It just does not make a lot of sense for a team like Winnipeg to move a player of this quality.
