It's known around Duckville... their interactions have been less than cordial.
Verbeek is sweeping out a lot of Murray's favorites. Just sweep San Diego coaching staff out.. Di Miao is another newcomer to management that is not locked into current Ducks. - dozerD10
I just realized his last 3 seasons have been .900 seasons...Has he been average? |

Agreed. He played well enough to give the Leafs a chance to win. - Scabeh
If he didn't go crap the bed for 3 months Leafs have a shot at 1st and face Washington.
I am not a hindsight guy but Dubas may want someone he can trust more of handling the mental part of playing 50 games in a season. |

To me this is just a terrible take, no GM has a 'loser mentality' they all want to win and it's obvious from watching Dubas he wants to win as much as anyone. The only exception is perhaps the obvious tank job GM that happens.
Ujiri has won 1 championship, and this year the Raptors bowed out in the 1st round - getting to the top of the mountain is exceptionally hard and staying there even harder, just look at how the Capitals have faired since they won the cup as a prime example.
The fact Tampa has won back to back cups and is as good as they are still despite losing a full line that was a key piece to their last cup win tells you just how good they are - and the Leafs were right there with them.
I just don't buy into the 'nothing has changed / this is the same loser Leafs team who cant' get it done narrative being touted by some. They are far from that team and when your reading about that being accurate from non-Toronto based media, hearing it from players from other teams one has to think maybe there is some accuracy to it. - Cush29
Fair enough. We see the team very differently.
The problem with your argument is that they actually lost in the exact same way yet again.
Could not get it done with this core group. |

Perhaps but I don't see Lilly being top pairing in his first full season as an NHL'r.

Friedman adds that he feels this has to be -- for lack of another team -- Dubas' summer of Kawhi. Thinks the Buds will really consider a major move.
Also adds that he thinks Giordano will likely be back at a lower number - Santo_44
That’s my biggest problem with keeping Dubas……he will never admit he was wrong on the core guys…..he will ride that bus Over the cliff and take us and the team with him. Never happen. |

Gio at a lower number? Sure!
I don't think there's a Kawhi option for Dubas, unfortunately...

To me this is the core of the problem with your argument - they absolutely did NOT lose in the "exact same way".
They did not blow a 3 games to 1 lead, they did not get shut out in a game 7 or blown away and were never in the game and their best players did not disappear for the better part of an entire playoff series.
If you acknowledge these things are all true then you can't possibly see it as losing in the 'exact same way'.
The only thing that is the exact same is that they lost in 7 games.

first, the book hasnt been 100% written yet.
second, we dont know what he has thought about. has he entertained moving one of them? probably. has there been the right deal out there? my guess is no.
its not an easy thing to move a top line player and improve..or at very least tread water.
he can trade will for a handful of futures..I guess

One of those 2 is way overpaid, the other overpaid but not by nearly the same margin.
There would need to be more coming to the Leafs in that trade in my opinion. |

They lost by 1 goal against a team that just might be the first legit dynasty in 40 (frank)ing years, and fought right to the end. Why is this so difficult for you to understand? Your emo ass everything is miserable act is tiresome at best. |

Yep and murphy's law is then get roasted as that former leaf goes on to greatness a la Carter "3rd round cast off" Verhage etc.
He will likely have to move a key piece, I just don't see it being either Marner or Matthews but after that I'd say all bets are off for anyone else being moved if the deal is right including Reilly or Willy.

I love Soupy but I'm not sure I"m ok with 4.5M for a guy who has been hurt so much. Prior to this year I'd have said also who perhaps isn't mentally tough enough to be the #1 guy but he seemed to get over that hump this year/these playoffs (at least to me).
If they can't unload Mrazek it could be an ugly situation.
Soup was at 1.8 M but you can't possibly expect him to take less than Mrazek.
I also find it exceptionally hard to say "if they leafs only had a goalie like MAF (or others who may be available like Varlomov) they would have beat Tampa" - they didn't lose because of Campbell, not even close in my opinion. - Cush29
MAF has more experience in big games, but who knows if the result would have been different.. Campbell was not the reason they lost..
All things considered, the difference was Tampa's 4th line was better and their bottom 6 in game 7 was better..
None of the series is on Campbell.. The challenge for Dubas is to try and find the right bottom 6 mix..
I hope Blackwell stays, Kampf has been better than expected.. Engvall and Mikheyev played well but didn't produce anything outside of the 2 EN goals..
The Leafs need a reliable 4th line.. Hoping that can be figured out this offseason |
