I saw this in regards to the Habs drafting Wright;

51 years ago (Wright's jersey number) the Montreal Canadiens made Guy Lafleur the first overall draft pick in 1971. Guy Lafleur was born in 19

- Komisaurus Rex[51]. Draft lottery was the 10th of May, Lafleur's jersey number. In Montreal's last game of the season, they scored 10 goals, the last one, with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

This is some type of inception poop.

The Leafs played against the weakest Lightning team in the last three years. Missing Point and their third line. Vasi was also pedestrian at times. Give me a break.

Might have been the year for the Isles to make the play-offs and show those Bolts what they're made of. Opps!

Certainly wish Hexy drafted Makar as his scouts and inner circle wanted him to, but at least he is now screwing up the Pens so I suppose that’s a consolation prize. Man - did he set the Flyers franchise back…

Still don't have the facts correct. There was no consensus among the scouts for Makar. How exactly is Hextall screwing up the Pens? Hextall had the Flyers in better position than they are now after 4 years of Fletcher.

denis potvin and larry robinson were really great D men

and the gap between orr and them was huge

This.
Stop comparing people to Orr.

I watched EK65 for years and he's the closest thing I've seen in our time....and even HE wasn't close to Orr. Makkar is the shiny "offenseman" of the week. Relax.

Yep could’ve been but they crapped the bed early enough to not allow that to happen…

Am I the only one who thought of that video of the guy screaming "Leave Britney Alone!" when reading about the Leafs?

The reason Canadians love to watch the Leafs lose and love to pour it on afterwards is simple. In Canada we have Sportsnet and TSN who cater (and yes I understand market share and population ) to Toronto, so the Leafs get 75% of media attention and all other Canadian based teams split the remaining 25%.

Am I whining about that, no, like I said, I understand the reasons.
But does that mean I get to laugh out loud now and every year at this time when the Leafs choke. Absolutely.

- Ross77

I hate that so much. I hate watching TSN for that reason, not just because of the Leafs but they only care about the Canadian teams. Trade Deadline of Free Agent Frenzy is just a bore to watch because they spend the entire time focusing on 7 of the 32 NHL teams in the league. They treat the sport like nothing outside of Canada matters

You are delusional. They are in the same position as with Hextall. Actually if you consider the Flyers are getting a top 5 draft pick this season that is a better position than with Hextall. We might finally get some top end talent on this roster rather than middle of the pack pick like we usually get. If Fletcher can cause us to be the worst team in the league next season that puts us in an even better position

I remember Orr and his style of play very well, there has not been anyone else yet but some have come close. If you have only seen him on highlights, you are only seeing his upside because hockey was not the same in those years. Players did not skate anywhere near as well as today, forwards were either stick handlers, shooters or goons. North American hockey was completely reinvented after facing the Red team. We looked like telephone poles on the ice, except for some players, including Orr. Was he great? Yup!!! The best D ever? A close yup! Has anyone come close, I think so! Only overshadowed because it is much harder today with the speed of the game.

I like it when people make themselves look like an idiot calling people delusional. Your post is based on what ifs. The fact that you are posting that if Fletcher can cause the Flyers to be the worst team in the league next season, shows how clueless this response is. I don't even need to go into the facts that prove that he team was better positioned under Hextall than now.

When the Toronto Raptors won the Championship against GS , ESPN was practically treating it like a day of national mourning for the sport of Basketball in the US , they were more concerned about the well being and state of the loosing team rather than the Raptors .

My point being , yeah TSN has too much maple sirop up their arses , but it's all about interest in viewership in the end....

It's happening and there's not a damn thing you can do about it except wallow in shame and pity at your annual 1st round choke-job with your team of perpetual losers.

Get a load of that release, cupcake.

The Flyers were middle of the pack team with Hextall. In playoffs one year, out the next. There was no step forward. Even with his successful draft picks the team was in no way closer to a contender.

Over Fletchers term the team has been roughly the same outside of this season. This season we finally bottomed out. That is more of a step forward than anything whether itentional or not because the Flyers need a full rebuild and getting a top 5 pick is a good start. Wost case scenario with the Flyers is that they could potentially compete for a playoffs spot and just miss. That would be on the level of hextalls team.

The team could in fact be as bad if not worse next season in a deep draft which again is a step in the right direction.

You keep claiming people need to have a higher bar for the Flyers yet you were completely fine with the mediocre team Hextall built through the draft. Fletcher has been using Hextall's core pieces and this team is still garbage.

All Fletcher has to do in order to be more successful than Hextall is not botch the the pick. Thats not high praise for Fletcher just the reality of what little Hextall did. Rumour is the Golden GM is already on his way out of Pittsburgh.

Clearly the sign of a great GM

You are confused at what a step forward actually is. It's not just simply getting better. It's putting the team on a path to contention over a period of time. All Fletcher has done is add more higher cap hit players that are likely to decline and tie up the Flyers cap. The worst position a team can be in the NHL, is a capped out team that is not good enough. The Flyers are at best a playoff bubble team. Under Hextall, the Flyers had built a solid prospect base, cast off bad contracts and the cap was in a solid position for the future. It is far better to be a team with failed prospects with cap space then a team in the position that Fletcher has them in.

The team could in fact be as bad if not worse next season in a deep draft which again is a step in the right direction.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Unless they match the injury totals from last season. Highly unlikely.

Again, you have the bar in the wrong place. You think what Fletcher has done is an improvement. You have a lack of insight here. What I was fine with under Hextall was the patient draft and develop process rather than the ill advised catastrophic approach of the team currently under Scott and Fletcher. The Flyers were more successful in the short time that Hextall was here than under Fletcher. It was a mistake to fire Hextall and give Fletcher the whole ball of wax. A completely absurd hire by an incompetent organization.

The Pens were bought by new ownership who may want to change things. Not an indictment of Hextall.
