Me too..and that really does make nights like tonight so much more palatable. In fact, I only felt sh!tty for like 5 to 10 seconds after they scored the winner and am now completely over it haha. They gave us a good ride, much better than expected, and we know they could of took it if not for a few unfortunate things. Pro sports isn't always fair.

One guy I'd like to get a chance next season is Alex Nylander. I was surprised he never got a call up to the NHL late in the season... but IMO, he is going to give you exactly what Kapanen gives you, but with more upside and at the fraction of the price.

Another not insignificant factor is Sid's real dollars drop to $3M the next 3 years. If there was ever a time to regroup and make significant changes, it's now. Dollars coming off the books and real salaries paid out going down.

Nah. Can’t blame the refs. Pens carried the play most of the series but made peewee level mental lapses.

If there is anything that this team proved during this series is that this team ain't poop without Crosby. Team had plenty of chances to chinch to the next round and sure enough no bueno.

In all seriousness Pens played way better then Rangers and were the better team for much of the series. Sid is Sid an all time player who hasnt lost a step. Guentzel is a beast and the 2 of them carried the Pens on their backs. Shesterkin played tonite as he did all season and that was the difference. Pens window closing and Rangers is opening but they wont accomplish anything close to what this Pens group has. Honestly I totally respect Pens as every yr when you think they wont be a top tier team they find a way . Never expected Pens to be this tough an out but there they were in OT game 7

Kap shouldn’t have been in this game. I was watching some wilksbarre footage and there’s guys there that have better offensive instincts. Not joking Brian Boyle if healthy should play with Malkin over Kapanen. That said if you’re paid like Malkin and for what he wants you can’t go shoot the puck at the net 1 time in a game 7. Only way he resigns if he lets enough money to get him self 2 good wingers. He can’t do it alone anymore.
- Grinder47

I totally agree that he can’t do it alone. He needs help and the Pens never got it for him.

This series is the reverse of the 2017 Penguins-Capitals series. The Caps badly outplayed us and we managed to win anyways.
- SuperHenderson13

That's pretty much what happened in this series. Kudos to a frustrating series on both sides that could have gone either way. I validated the Rangers season going to OT tonight, and somehow got the bonus.
See you next season.

This is actually what pisses me off the most about Malkin

Sid signed a 12 year contract with the last 3 years being for 9 million actual dollars but the rules changed and Geno could only sign 8 year contract (They made the actual dollars the same through 8 years that's why Geno had the higher cap hit)

Far as I'm concerned, Geno owes us 4 years for 17.7 Million to even it up

I think Geno is way way more effective with Rust and Jake, and I bet Sid could do more with Rackell and Zucker than Geno would have

It takes a lot of guts to win a series like that when you're being outplayed, especially at 5 on 5. Rangers waited for their chances and didnt miss when they got them. Teams that can pull off series wins like that go far.

Not like he didn't earn it, but I'm all for as much organizational turnover this summer. Not going to win as is, and as much as I love watching the three of them play, it was bound to come to an end. At best they'd be mediocre if they resign Letang and Malkin. I'd rather see them take advantage of having $30M coming off the books in other ways and overhaul the coaching staff and front office.

How's this for some funny Math

Sid signs 12 years 104.4 Million (8.7 avg cap hit) with 76 million paid out over the first 8 years

Geno signs an 8 year contract (due to new rules), but they pay him the same 76 million which makes his cap hit 9.5 million)

To make the contracts the same, they would have to pay Geno 4 years 28.4 Million

Which makes Geno's cap hit

7.1 Million

Yup, me too and 6 finals. Doesn't mean this sucks any less at the moment, but in a few days it won't be as devastating.

Series came down to keeping the puck out of their net. However you look at it, you don't deserve to win if you can't lock down games. Wasn't all on the tender. 4GA again tonight. NY wasn't all that great so you have to look at the entire roster.

The goal this offseason should be Trocheck. The Penguins need a 2C. I love Malkin, but he aint it 5 on 5. Put him at LW and he will flourish.

Jake-Crosby-Rakell
Malkin-Trocheck-TBD

The other goal should be dumping Dumo. Hard to believe he was the most valuable piece in that Staal deal, especially when it looked like he was a throw in. But he just cant play in this system. I think you'll find a team to take him.

You need to find some bottom 6 guys who arent completely useless when they arent scoring. That applies to Cater and Kapanen. You're stuck with Carter, but I dont want Kapanen back unless he is back at an insanely good price.

- SuperHenderson13

Just let Malkin go at that point. Thank you Malkin for giving us some amazing memories as Pens fans. I don’t think they compete with him eating up a bunch of salary while playing like he did. Maybe he takes a team friendly 18 mil/3 year deal to allow the team to resign Rust and other solid FAs. Hopefully Rust takes a deal similar to Guentzel.

We peaked too early.

Clean, dirty, or something in between, the Trouba hit on Crosby changed everything.

The thing about Geno is this

He aint getting any big $$$ right now in Russia

Assuming the Pens offer him something around 6 (Sid is only making 3 so it's not like its an insult) Where is he gonna go and for what?

To Buffalo for 8 Million? Is that really worth it?

Pretty sure Petts/ Marino's play sealed Dumo's fate. And definitely will find a GM blinded by his 1rst pairing label. Kap has to be gone no matter his price and Rakell needs to stay. Stuck with Zucker as well as Carter.

Malkin led the team with a +6 5v5 goal differential.

Crater was the worst at -6

Zucker is movable, just won't get anything for him and will have to retain. If they let Malkin and / or Letang walk, they probably won't spend to the Cap, so might as well let him play for one more year though.

Hoping the new ownership does the right thing and fires Hextall. He committed the ultimate sin... built a roster barely good enough to get into the playoffs but with no chance of winning. Not only that, we head into the offseason with Malkin, Letang, Rackell & Rust all UFA. Literally the worst possible outcome of the season.

While its a poop look for Sullivan getting knocked out in the first round again, he got a hell of a lot more out of this team than I thought possible going into the season. I thought we would be sellers at the deadline. But fire the (frank) out of the special teams coaches.

I'd love to see some wholesale changes to this lineup. But they need to decide if they want to compete now or to go through a rebuild and not get stuck in no mans land.

The defence needs to be completely restructured, Letang absolutely has to be back.

Malkin, Rust, Rackell are all gonzo. Kapanen is going to get traded for another underperforming RFA (Barrett Hayton or Villardi would be worth a shot).

They need Fleury back on a 2 year deal. Jarry is in a contract year, he needs to have some serious pressure on him and prove that he is worth an extension. By that same token, the Pens can't leave themselves completely tied to him where they will need to offer him a regrettable contract.

This was a solid team. Especially the forwards. But idc who they lost or who did what. 3 straight blown 3rd period leads is just inexcusable.

All of this wont matter in 2 years when we sign Nathan MacKinnon to come play with Crosby.

Don't forget signing Carter in-season
