Funny. Right now, I'm thinking of something—actually someone—even more pathetic than that. No doubt you've seen him quite often. |

Sadly misguided, prior Giroux-bashing, Flyer’s fan suddenly sees the light and says “ahh, it really is a team sport. Who knew?”

I'm not saying he isn't a good player, he is. I don't think he's a Hall of Famer, but very good.
I'm just saying he came up small in the playoffs for the Flyers. In his last 35 playoff games he scored 4 goals. He had 14 assists over those games which is also below his normal production. 18 points in 35 games. That isn't getting it done.
So for Flyers "fans" to puff out their chest now that he's playing well in the playoffs for another team is comical.

So you're going to ignore Fletcher's comments that he's going to be aggressive in free agency and with trades? - MJL
Unlike you, I pay attention to the entirety of Fletcher's comments, not just a portion of his comments that suit my narrative. To quote
"An aggressive retool to me is being aggressive in *every* area, and I think we already started when we moved 3 quality players at the deadline and we picked up Owen Tippet, a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick, a 4th round pick, we were able to resign 3 of our unsigned college kids who could have elected for free agency this summer, so its being aggressive in all phases. Certainly part of this is we have to get younger, we have to get more talented, get faster, and then we have to aggressively look at trades and free agency and can we add a couple of players to *supplement* what we have here to make this team better."
Now tell me, how can any Flyer fan disagree with this assessment and approach?? |

The facts always seem to get in the way of some folks agendas on here. I mean, the one clown just likes to call everyone morons and idiots, and yet, he never adds anything of substance on here. The fact is that Giroux was ineffective for the Flyers come playoff time since 2012. Obviously not entirely his fault when you don't have guys that can finish, but at times he was downright invisible. Of course, now it's time to pump out our chest and say I told you so. Some guys on here just insist on being dorks! Don't waste your time fighting it with them. Thanks! |

So proud of Giroux, I really hope this team goes all the way. He must be giggling like a schoolgirl that he got out of this cesspool of incompetence. |

that is fair Fletcher has made a lot of mistakes, and this is a very big off-season for him and for the team it's either make it or break it for him. |

He did do some things that are questionable. My biggest concern is it does look like he got their current value wrong and made moves off of that last summer. It is a big off season and he hasn’t built up anywhere close to enough equity as the GM for me to think he can get this turned around. Obviously I hope he surprises me. |

On the other hand, what exactly can Fletcher really do this off-season?
Draft: I have zero confidence with the Flyers scouting and development over the last decade or so. They can draft decent complimentary type roster players in the 1st round, but they always seem to get the same whether it's a high pick, mid round or even late and never anything in a higher echelon. Later rounds are just almost always raw projects that never tend to be more than just callups or never have beens.
UFA: The Flyers have no cap space to even fill a need due to constant and consistent mistakes made in previous years. They almost never take risks on cheap UFAs that end up being overachievers, they stick with dime a dozen specialized players.
Trading: Pretty much the only option, but Fletcher would have to put together a package together, which would most likely be considered overpaying, just to get a player of need if one was even available. He could try to shed some salary, but there's going to be very few takers without some kind of incentive. Best case the Flyers tend to make trades that go in parallel and end up in the same situation anyway.
Coach: Basically the only thing that could make a difference this offseason. Whether Fletcher or another GM, they need to find the right coach/staff that can put together a system that works with what they currently have and overachieve until they have a realistic chance to make more drastic changes to the roster. |

I agree 100%. The Flyers stifled Couturier. - MJL
Had to teach him how to play a 200 ft game -- that is what wins hockey games |

I think Boudreau was definitely on Fletcher’s radar. Now that he’s off the board, I wonder if Chuck makes a push for Bruce’s buddy, Trotz. Maybe Trotz would be a better fit in Florida though.
