First off, F the Rangers. But, no matter who moves on, they NEED to lose in the next round! - BiggE
im not sure how it will shake out in the other series but i cant see either the crosby-less pens or rangers beating 2 out of florida/carolina/tampa to come out of the east. of course toronto is still there but i need to see it to believe with them. theyre chokers until they do it, fair or not. |

Toronto is different this year. I do not think it is a choke to lose to TBL. It will be perceived that way though. Kucherov has looked disinterested for most of the series and Vasi has given up three or more in every game. If I was a Leafs fan I would be worried about both players. Matthews has been a stud for TML.

I am not sure I am following but you don't want Trotz because he is a good coach and gets the most out of his players?
Also last I knew, keeping pucks out of your net also helps win games.
I guess I can't see how hiring Trotz would be bad? - J35Bacher
You are fully correct. In the grand scheme of things the status quo is the biggest issue. Maintaining that just cannot happen.
The prudent course of action would be to continue a rebuild, continue focusing on youth, and most of all ensuring the team finds itself in a similar position next season come draft time.
Trotz is good enough to potentially make this a bubble playoff team.
I guess it depends on what you’d like to see moving forward. A perpetual first round loser, that everyone else other than gullible Flyer fans knows has no realistic chance at winning a damn thing.
Or building a true contender for a number of seasons with a realistic chance at doing some damage.
The Flyers don’t have enough high end talent. Period. They aren’t getting enough of that talent with outdated views of relying on FA or the trade market. |

The best times with this franchise was when they were leading the way with innovation and setting the trends. Fred Shero bringing in European system concepts. Adding assistant coaches. GM identifying players that fit that. Since 2005 and the cap being instituted. This franchise has been behind the times and playing catch up. - MJL
It’s just so strange to me that a large corporation can’t see they are being lead astray.
You are bang on with your comments. |

The other thing with Trotz which I will be fully open with, is I just cannot fathom watching the team play that style for the next few years.
So many teams in the league, a lot of them some of the best teams have indeed chosen to employ systems that are so much more entertaining to watch.
If the Flyers had success with this fascination of defense in the last decade one could find some merit in the direction. Fans of other teams are treated to a product that we just aren’t. One can see it watching these playoffs.
A team bereft of exciting superstars, playing a style that puts people to sleep most nights. Who in their right mind thinks that a few more wins is going to have the crowds back?
This team is frankly boring, and doesn’t have the talent to allure younger individuals. Trotz hockey just doubles down on a boring product. The men influencing the direction of this thing seem to forget that guys like Howe or Lindros could actually dominate the game.
Getting a top pick next season is so much more important than sniffing the playoffs next year. |

I want Toronto to win that game 7. If they can somehow meet up with Boston again for a series that will be great hockey to watch. |

The evidence is piling - Hesh_ There is no evidence...only substance! The Laffs are the most obnoxious fan base in the free world. They always claim to be the center of the hockey universe. I have Sirius/XM in my car and that NHL station is located in Toronto. They are supposed to cover all teams, but those jagoffs talk about the Laffs all the time. And I've just enjoyed watching them choke year after year! Yeah, I hate the Rags too, but just not as much as the Cowgirls of the NHL. |

I being from the Centre of the universe am pulling for the Leafs….fun team to watch. I thought I could pull for the Rangers over the pens, but I can’t stand either. I do find myself thinking the Flyers are not close to any of these teams I’m watching every night. Dark days for sure. |

For a coach you mean?
Ideally Groulx. I know Gronborg has been mentioned here, and I’d have some interest.
If they are dedicated to go the retread route Boudreau if he’s available or Montgomery.
Tortorella, Maurice or Tocchet are just bad decisions. |

Pretty much how I feel...... Except if the Bruins win.
Just a geographical thing for me. Rags out, Bruins out, Pens out. |

It all goes back to where you set the bar. Some will be happy with the fools gold and the participation trophy for improving next season and getting to bubble playoff status. "See, we're moving in the right direction". No we're not, we're just ascending back to perpetual mediocrity.

Can take Boudreau off the list.
Canucks would have had a Mutiny if they let him go. |

I want to see what direction they go player wise before deciding good or bad. The lack of elite talent and over all team makeup is more pressing in my mind then anything else. At this point I have no preferences with regards to coaching. I do agree that Torts or Maurice seem like an AV light type of decision. I’m not sure Tocchet ever had the horses to succeed as a head coach and much like Berube may be a solid coach one day …..I’m just not sure it’s here or now. |

Definitely.
I don’t like making mock lineups, but the following next season I would be fine with.
Farabee-Couturier-Konecny
Lindblom-Hayes-Atkinson
Cates-Frost-Tippet
4th line open competition
Provorov-Sanheim
York-Ristolainen
Zamula-Rutta
I’m not including Allison or Ellis due to health. This marriage to a Sanheim/Ristolainen pairing is also not something I’m as dedicated to. They lack RHD, and frankly someone will need to play their off side.
That’s a lineup that gives opportunity to kids, while ensuring a high end player at the 2023 draft. |

Yep, other than trying to shed cap space and acquire future assets, they shouldn't do a dang thing this off season.

They have to treat Ellis like a bonus if he plays and plan to be without him the majority of the year.

I agree mostly, I would think Lou has a little something to do with NYI, I mean he brought in quite the vet presence over the last 2 seasons. Were the Caps really boring? or did the talent they have blend well with Trotz and his system?
