No. You dont decide what a true fan is.
You wanna be a homer or overly invested, great, all the power to you and anyone else. Its all good and can be fun.
After decades of failure, im at a show me stage with this team. Show me youre different and get past the first round.
Shrugging it off if they dont win doesnt make anyone any less of a fan. Maybe a little more in control of their emotions, but not any less of a fan.
I wanna see a cup just like anyone else, i want my kids to see a cup but if it never occurs its nowhere near the end of the world or anything devastating. The results of pro sport teams is very low on my important things in life scale.
But it doesnt make me or anyone else any less of a fan.

If your feelings aren’t effected you are not the amongst strongest fans plain and simple

Regardless of your excuses.

You’re nowhere near the strongest fans of a team if you can find them losing acceptable.

A fan, aficionado, or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a sporting club, person, group of persons, or trend. Fans constitute a fanbase or fandom. They often show their enthusiasm by starting a club, blogging, or promoting the object of their interest.

After Toronto's oft-deserved rep as a flat home crowd during the regular season, it's so cool to see what a great 7th man they are in the playoffs. Just blowing the whole joint up.
- Zezel

Thats a good call out.
The crowd has been great....really great.
But as atomic said, the playoff crowd is different than reg season. But this crowd seems very loud.

Perhaps it's also the pent up emotion coming out of 2 years of pandemic lockdown too. The crowd set an energetic tone in game 1 when the Leafs killed that major penalty and the team seemed to feed on it. The reactions to the Willy goal and the Matthews goal in particular were deafening.

Strongest fans? Lol
Wtf
Im not wrong....cause there isnt a wrong or right....just different types of fans. You have to label everything and everyone, youre very judgemental.
Great.
I dont have to prove my fandom to you or anyone.
I dont find them losing acceptable, i just dont let it affect after the final horn.
Like i said, im at a show me stage with this team. Show me youre different and get past the first round.
So there is no wrong or right here.

If you need a team to prove to you that they can win then you’re not truly cheering them on to win and believing they will.

Hence you are not a strongest fan.

You’ve become rather obnoxious as of late fake and I’m finally seeing why.

It could be cause we haven't seen a playoff crowd in years?
Nah, this crowd has been loud, really loud.
Leafs fans are ready explode, the tying and go ahead goals were evidence of that.

That willie shot was an fn snipe.
The marner shot/pass to am was chocolaty goodness.

So, if Jurassic Park is Jurassic Park for the Raptors, what do they call it for the Leafs?

I wish they could call it Maple Leaf Gardens, but that would obviously create confusion and there'd be a bunch of people at Loblaws.

That's a serious Loblaws location, by the way if you haven't been. poop is pretty intense.

My only point here is the bolded. Why are letting years of past owners, past management, past players affect you so much now? I don't understand the decades thing is all. Doesn't make sense to have the results of the 1999 team matter to you now. It's completely different other than the logo on the uniforms.

That's a tough play if you're a goalie. You have to be aware of the 60 goal scorer and one of the best passers in the league...who is also a 35 goal scorer. What a combo.

Ive been a fan of a losing team for decades.
Dont give me your not a strongest fan bs.
This version of the leafs needs to prove they are different as they claimed to be.
Im not the obnoxious one, its you.
You can barely have a convo with someone who has different opinion than you without insulting them or being judgemental.
Alot of people are at the "this team needs to show me they are different" place.
Its not just me.
But whatever

Who cares about anyone's style of fandom at a time like this, let's just agree that even though it's only Game 5, it's not too early to start sucking each other's Richards.

It was an fn brilliant play by Marner and a beauty realisation by Matthews of what Marner was doing.
I scared my dog with my excitement of that goal.
It was a beauty

I submitted my parade route to Dubas and Co already. I got you and I at the front as the parade leaders. That guy who twirls the staff thing.

You’re not a strongest fan whatsoever if you don’t truly care if they lose.

And anyone who shares that opinion with you aren’t full blown fans either.

And if you attack me one more time for calling you on this I’ll ban you for the rest of the postseason since you’re saying you don’t really care

Have a good one

Nice. I bet the dog was happy after. Definitely one of the best moments in recent Toronto sports memory. That game was up there with the Leonard buzzer beater and the bat flip. But they gotta close to really cement it.

Beauty celebration by Matthews too.

Its not "the decades" for me with this specific team.
For the organization, sure its the decades thing.
But with this current team, show me you are different and changed compared to the leafs team from last year, year before or three years ago.

Well you specified the decades as the reason you feel this way so that's why I asked.

Sure, if that's your expectation of this team then have it. I personally think they have changed and if they lose to the reigning champs then so be it.

The bolded is what I disagree with.

If they lose a series a true fan should be upset. Plain and simple.

I did not state I wouldn't be upset. I just said "so be it". Nothing I can do about it, you just have to accept it. Which you can do AND be upset about it.

If they lose then you should go through a flash of feelings that the team is a failure… and then yes of course turn those feelings around…but not right away
