Would be nice as there hasn't been a Leafs MVP since *checks notes* Teeder back in 54-55.

Remember those little fold-up schedules you would get for the Jays and Leafs, and you'd eagerly get them to see what games were and were not televised?

we all did, I could pick it at a convenience store in Quebec, the box would be by the cashier.

I was just talking about that the other day in our denture facebook group.

Matthews named Hart Trophy finalist.
- Atomic Wedgie

I really thought Josi would be in there instead of McDavid. McDavid had 123 points (8 more than the next closest), but 44 of those were on the Power Play.

Josi had 96 points (11th in the league) as a defenseman - although 37 of those were on the Power Play, he still led all defensemen in 5v5 scoring.

I mean McDavid's 5v5 scoring was 7th in the league - tied with Bunting. Gaudreau led the league in 5v5 scoring with 72 points, and Matthews was 2nd at 66 - although if you prorate for his missed games, Matthews was at a 74pt pace - so there's a relative closeness to what they did at 5v5.

I think the 5v5 play, the defensive elements (80 takeaways was 1st; McDavid's 66 was 2nd), the 51 in 50 goal streak in the middle of the season and the 60 goals puts him over McDavid - so to me the only question is: Was it better than the fantastic season that Shesterkin put up?

Either way, someone is getting robbed of the Hart.

So do the Hart Trophy votes get cast at the end of the regular season or at some point during/post playoffs?
- mjones242

I heard on the radio the deadline to get votes in were for the day the playoffs started this year. They didn't specify a time but I bet it's before the first game starts.

I feel like all 3 are quality choices this year.

You could argue the same thing for McDavid as people have for Lebron. For at least a decade they both could have/could win the MVP award. However, people get tired of voting for the same person and will purposely look for someone "close enough" to give the award to someone else. I mean, where is Edmonton without McDavid this year? Not even in a playoff spot.

I'm cool with both. I think the ban was too much for that type of banter but I don't think he banned Fakesy bc of the 'fan' poop. Looks like he did it bc of the tone he was pushing.

I like Fakesy but I tease him occasionally for his glass half empty approach.

Instead of banning him I would have altered his avatar to Eeyore.

Hopefully Fakesy's got an alt.

You think? I think he beats Makar and Hedman. All three are pretty even. You could argue that it's Makar's turn - or that flirting with 30 goals or flirting with 100 points are pretty big. Their underlying defensive numbers are actually all quite similar - but those of Hedman and Makar are boosted by the team in front of them.

Of those 3, who do I think is actually the best defenseman? Hedman. Of those 3, who do I think is the most dynamic and would I most want on my team? Makar.

I still think there's been enough buzz about Josi this year that the Norris is very likely his.

I think Makar actually deserved it last year but lost out because he missed a few games.

This year, as good as Makar was, it's definitely Josi's to lose.

Maybe the buzz helps but Josi does the least actual defending.

Dig deeper and I think you’ll see Makar has done more than Josi. But most people voting don’t dig too deep so it’ll likely be Josi.

He very well Might since the voters are idiots. I’d argue that neither he or McDavid should be finalists. By the definition I’d have Josi, Kaprizov, Gaudreau, Huberdeau over both of them.

Matthews scores too many goals to be a good centreman. But Josi gets too many points to be a good d-man.

Goal scoring was way up across the league. 15 - 40 goal scorers this year.

Huberdeau's not even the most valuable player on his own team. Florida was 8-5 in games where Barkov was injured and Huberdeau played. In those 13 games, Huberdeau did register 17 points, although he had a 5 point game against Buffalo - so does that even count?
