The Habs DO need players from Quebec.
They've never won anything without some of them playing a significant role for the team.
So yes, when there's a chance to grab a highly talented local player, you take it.
Now this being said, it doesn't mean making bad trades to make it happen or picking the "wrong" player just because he speaks french.
But you need to be aware of the opportunities around you and for the love of god not let another Bergeron pass you by when you draft Corey WHOrquart. - Scabeh
The Kings have NEVER WON ANYTHING without a Slovenian playing a significant role on the team. They need to at least take a chance and grab some high end Slovenian talent next time they can! |

I get what you're saying, but I think Quebecers playing for the habs might have a more significant history than Slovenians with the kings lol... |

It shouldn't past the moment the rest of the NHL could get their hands on the Quebec players. |

my point is that there is some merit to a certain degree to want Quebecers playing in MTL, the debate is about the extent of this and how realistically it can be done... there's no cultural significance in the example you gave. |

(frank) all Ontarian (frank)s if they suck playing for the Leafs. Clarkson sucked (frank)ing Richards. The Penguins don't give a (frank) that their best players are a Nova Scotian, Russian and a fourth round pick from Quebec.
Teams need to move past petty things to do well. |

How many complained during the SC Final run that the people leading it were all non-Quebec born players aside from Danault? |

not many, what's your point? I guess it's hard for people from the outside looking in to understand why MTL would give any importance to have Quebecers on the team, it's a unique circumstance in the league... I think this conversation is futile lol |

I think we both agree it's unique (though Minnesota tried to do it too), but modernity is upon us man. Pick Dumais in the 2nd round and be happy. |

I think montreal should mandate that they always draft the highest ranking available quebecois with their 1st pick. |

yeah, I have a more nuanced perspective than you might think. we've had this conversation earlier today, I'm not saying draft Quebecers at any cost, and modernity doesn't mean it can't be done at all either. anyway, I'm really fed up talking about this, especially when people think it's "petty" or whatever.. |
