The Habs DO need players from Quebec.

They've never won anything without some of them playing a significant role for the team.

So yes, when there's a chance to grab a highly talented local player, you take it.

Now this being said, it doesn't mean making bad trades to make it happen or picking the "wrong" player just because he speaks french.

But you need to be aware of the opportunities around you and for the love of god not let another Bergeron pass you by when you draft Corey WHOrquart.

my point is that there is some merit to a certain degree to want Quebecers playing in MTL, the debate is about the extent of this and how realistically it can be done... there's no cultural significance in the example you gave.
