Could this "surprise" reaction be any faker?

It was rigged from the get go I tell you.

I have complete faith in the NHL's draft lottery system.

The Habs DO need players from Quebec.

They've never won anything without some of them playing a significant role for the team.

So yes, when there's a chance to grab a highly talented local player, you take it.

Now this being said, it doesn't mean making bad trades to make it happen or picking the "wrong" player just because he speaks french.

But you need to be aware of the opportunities around you and for the love of god not let another Bergeron pass you by when you draft Corey WHOrquart.

Now that we did as Bettman suggested and hired his buddy Jeff Gorton, I feel like the league has never been more fair.

I agree 100% with this, except perhaps for the bolded part, the league and the context have changed too much for this argument to still be valid, imho.

I really want the Habs to take a chance on him with one of their late first/early 2nd round pick.

Plenty of skills in that guy.

The league did change alot from 1993. I'm not denying that.

But I still think they need good local guys around playing a significant role for the team if they are to go back to being the dynasty that they were.

Again, not making this the primary criteria for moves to come... but they need to grab the good ones and WIN.

Joshua Roy will be the next "Frenchy", he will play on Wright's wing and they will be awesome!

I guess my point was that there may not be a Quebecer on the first line or on the 1st pairing D, and they could still win, but I get what you're saying.

bottom line is there should be nuance between "let's trade the 1st pick for Lafrenière" and "the habs don't need any Quebecers at all" lol

Trade #1 to Cbus for 6 and 12. Or to Buffalo for 9 and 16.

Come out of the draft with Jiricek, Geekie, Lamaroux/Gaucher and Miroshichenko with top 4 picks.

Profit.

you don't trade #1 if you have a shot at a true 1C. Habs have a chance to finally fix that issue. Why get more of what you have with those other picks?

they already have 14 picks, why trade for more? to the contrary, they should package a few and trade up.

Leafs have very few picks. a 1st, a 3rd and a 7th.
maybe we could target their first for a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 4th
