Is it really though? Imo it's as simple as he didnt want to be here ie didnt like the pressure and his usage as a defensive pivot. I think it's unanimous we wanted to keep him, but he was a UFA so largely his choice where he wants to go. - apex123
Bergevin said he did not want to give him the 500 000 $ difference he had from LA. What's done is done, but that seems very stupid when you see all the money mtl is spending on dead weight elsewhere. |

like I heard on RDS yesterday, didn't want to give him 6.5, they offered 6 BUT they gave Hoffman 4.5M/yr |

they will be fore sure with HuGo, Hughes knows the Q well. - Symba007
yup, and from the looks of it they're going to build a proper recruitment and development team, Molson shouldn't mind investing a bit more if he wants to bring in more quality players and win.

I’ve had enough of the “Montreal needs players from Québec” narrative.

That's where I'm coming from. +, KK left after that and DD got kicked out. Danault wanted to play on the pp. Maybe he was right after all. Anyway. |

they do need players from Quebec, but it should make sense, drafting Quebecers with less talent doesn't. it isn't BS if you're being logical about it.

It's nice to have but not a necessity, people want to cheer for a championship team not Ti-Cul Tremblay from Alma. There's the LHJMQ for that. |

I wouldn't say that.
I'm not for acquiring them for the sake of having them, (Leblanc, Drouin, etc..)

funny how Bergevin would be blamed for all the bad moves, but in this case it was Danault's decision to leave... - Pat1993
We weren't in the room where negotiations happened obviously, but based on Danault talking about how french players have even more pressure when talking about Drouin and saying he wants a more offensive role ie PP time and offensive zone starts, it sounded like he wanted out for sure imo.
Obviously it's not the first time Bergrvin would have (frank)ed up a negotiation, but I dont believe that's the case here. Regardless, I dont see the point in harping on it nowadays, obviously he looks even better than we thought in an offensive role and it sucks to have lost him, but poop happens. It wouldnt have made sense to have traded him that year either as they did have their cup finals run. I'm happy they'll be drafting Wright barring a catastrophe. |

yeah, I don't buy the pressure thing, he was doing a pretty damn good job during the playoffs despite all that "pressure". but you're right, we should move on, and hope that the new management will set their priorities straight and have the team improve without being stuck with more poopty contracts or losing more valuable players.

I don't think Pat is advocating for that either. Just that if they can bring guys that can contribute from the Q, they should consider it. |

He said so himself (Bergevin) in public. Was probably on RDS one year ago, so sorry if I don't have the clip for you. |

I'll take your word for it, Bergevin was good at trades, but poop at negotiating and somehow even worse at drafting. It sucks, but luckily we'll be drafting Wright. |
