How about asking for a team's 1st round pick next year in any trade? If Bedard is the real deal (I have not seen him play just read some reports), then we should try to acquire a 2023 1st round draft pick. Lottery luck or package two 1st rounders for the top pick in 2023... |

What teams that will have a shot for Bedard will trade their 2023 first? Then if they would what would it take?

You could ask 10 people on here to define tanking and get 10 different answers. |

Purposely trading players for assets to finish lower. That’s what I would like the Flyers to do. |

Pfff, yes. Obviously some risk associated with it but absolutely. |

Imagine the Bruins without Bergeron, Marchand or Pastrnak.... oh, right. Two of them weren't first round picks and the other was a late first rounder. - bmeltzer
The funny part of this wonderful team blinder thinking.
Who was the last philly draft pick 2nd round or later to put multiple 60+ point seasons while with philly?
….. 1983 tocchett
Love love love love when examples are given of post 1st round picks doing anything for philly.
They don’t draft for new nhl.
They’re development pretty much blows
They’re medical and strength conditioning blows

The team is about to get a top 5 pick. Really, in what should be the start of a true rebuild for a number of seasons.
Instead, we will get an immediate asinine push for "contention".
Imagine a Pittsburgh team with Crosby, and no Malkin. Think they do as well as they have? What about Chicago with Toews, but not Kane? Tampa with Stamkos but not Hedman?
Colorado with Landeskog but no MacKinnon, Makar or Rantanen? Washington with Ovechkin but no Backstrom? Toronto with Marner but not Matthews, or Nylander. Florida with Huberdeau with no Ekblad or Barkov?
Each example can be nitpicked but the proof is all there. It takes more than one season to properly build an elite team via the draft. The Flyers are so desperate to try, and rush a process that is so necessary.
Whoever continues to run this team, influence its decisions, and harp into the ear of Comcast has no idea how to build a high end team in the modern NHL. The Flyers thinking they know better than the vast majority of successful clubs in recent years sure has worked out well. - FlyerFan3260
They’re GOAL isn’t to win. It’s PROFITS. If winning also happens…. GREAT.
BIAS FOR ACTION
Fletcher can’t really even be blamed. He was hired with a mandate to do a specific thing.. he did what he thought achieved that. He failed. Should be fired because he didn’t hit the mandate clearly.
As far as expecting him to make moves for that mandate I think it’s pretty clear he’s not capable.
As far as rebuilding team who knows but his track record isn’t good and pretty easy to assume he’d fail |

So out of the prospects that the Flyers will realistically draft at 5, what are their weaknesses?
The Flyers are an organization that does things the right way and anyone coming here, regardless of their drafted slot number or pedigree, better earn their ice time.
If we draft a scorer I want to see them bringing the lunch pail to work everyday and develop that 200 foot game. |

That probably's off the table now after the lottery, wouldn't you think? - Tomahawk
I would think so. They have 3 good young centers so they probably go for a wing. Slafkovsky is the choice that makes sense.

Fiala comes off as quite a D bag - ClaudeFather
I don’t have a read on him. He has all the cliché speak during interviews. Fiala was immature when he came up but he’s grown some. He’s very productive but not really captain material.

ARI or anyone for that matter wouldnt trade a potential Bedard pick unless they didnt expect to have a good chance of winning the lottery, aka not finishing bottom 5. You are not getting that pick

I agree. When the chips are down, who would you want donning the orange and black? Some candy ass Euro style guy who goes around in circles instead of being a man and heading straight for the paint? Or a guy who will deliver the pep talk when we are down 5-0 and spoil that other's guy's shut out by scoring that all important 1 goal while hobbling on 1 broken foot?
Hockey is a sport for men. And it is not every guy who can display the nobility of fighting defeat. Those who can, them's our boys!

If the goal is to total rebuild and move others too then yes. The team needs to bottom out to get high draft capital. Ari blows and will have high puck next year. Gives option to package picks to try to get bedard. At worst have 2 high picks next year. Wouldn’t be opposed to that path.
Although it doesn’t fit aggressive retool narrative |

Flyers need to rent out Howie Roseman for some wheeling and dealing. Not the drafting part. Just the phone calls.
By the way, future picks are typically worth less than present. I know AZ has a good chance at being a lottery team next year, but the risk of them somehow not being a bottom feeder, as well as the fact that the worst record still only has a shaving under 20% shot to win the lottery, lessens its value.
All this being said, no way do the Flyers try to trade for Zona’s future first. I’d love it, but nah. It just seems far fetched |

I’d do it. Unfortunately I don’t see Chuck trading away an established player for a pick however - hereticpride
No, he'll trade an established player with a 2nd and that player will score 50 points for their new team. |
