The team is about to get a top 5 pick. Really, in what should be the start of a true rebuild for a number of seasons.
Instead, we will get an immediate asinine push for "contention".
Imagine a Pittsburgh team with Crosby, and no Malkin. Think they do as well as they have? What about Chicago with Toews, but not Kane? Tampa with Stamkos but not Hedman?
Colorado with Landeskog but no MacKinnon, Makar or Rantanen? Washington with Ovechkin but no Backstrom? Toronto with Marner but not Matthews, or Nylander. Florida with Huberdeau with no Ekblad or Barkov?
Each example can be nitpicked but the proof is all there. It takes more than one season to properly build an elite team via the draft. The Flyers are so desperate to try, and rush a process that is so necessary.
Whoever continues to run this team, influence its decisions, and harp into the ear of Comcast has no idea how to build a high end team in the modern NHL. The Flyers thinking they know better than the vast majority of successful clubs in recent years sure has worked out well. - FlyerFan3260
But tanking doesn’t work to some lol. Every team outside of Stl had horrid seasons to get the guys that matter. People thinking they are above ranking can Frank off |

Chychrun can't stay healthy in Arizona, so why would the Flyers want to trade for him? They already have Ellis and Risto as expensive top 4 dmen with injury issues. |

Imagine the Bruins without Bergeron, Marchand or Pastrnak.... oh, right. Two of them weren't first round picks and the other was a late first rounder. - bmeltzer
One team was able to do it, congrats. This is the perfect time for the Flyers to bottom out and this stupid franchise isn’t going to do it. Unbelievable. |

Tanking is a weird phrase to me.
One could call it simply focusing on accumulating high end young talent.
Bill can get testy with me if he wishes, the Flyers will try to force their way out of the basement right back into endless mediocrity. Anyone with a brain can see where this is heading under the current regime.
At least those alumni with their hands in Snider's cookie jar can continue to influence the direction of the team with their outdated views. |

Not on purpose, but they finished 29th this season while Chuck was actively trying to be a playoff team so it could still happen.

I’d propose a trade to New Jersey surrounding TK+ for two overall. They might be trying to take a step forward and want a roster player to make an immediate impact. The + is the tough part. |

There is a rumor out that NJ is open to trading the pick and a roster player for Fiala.

Yes and they brought in all folks from outside the system and old buys network. How did that work? - Joe Nardone
LMAO. No they didn't!

Hextall, and Pryor were shown the door. Aside from that who else?
It's very clear who won that power struggle, and we continue to pay the price for it today. |

Tanking and patiently rebuilding through the draft are two very different things.

Not sure were on the same page here. Fletcher was hired to run the show. He is very much a part of the inner circle and was hired because of Clarke.

I like to refer to the concept as a focused accumulation of high end talent.
Patiently rebuilding, while drafting in the middle of the first round season after season is also a poor strategy. It was my primary concern with Hextall's approach.
Selling on Provorov, along with TK would ensure a position to draft the required level of talent. Otherwise we continue to bathe in the benefits of a never ending sludge of middle of the lineup type of players.
This is all just fantasy as we both know what the Flyers will do. We both also know what it yields. |

I’d do it. Unfortunately I don’t see Chuck trading away an established player for a pick however |

We are on the same page.
I very much agree Fletcher is part of the same crew. My comment was mainly in response to the poster who said they fired people, and the same results continue.
They didn't really remove anyone outside of Hextall, and Pryor. |

You have to find a balance. You can't deplete the team or you create an environment that is not supportive of the young developing players you already have. Obviously Ristolainen, Ellis, Hayes, Atkinson and JVR are the players to move but they likely can't. That's the pickle barrel the Flyers have put themselves in
