I know very little about any of the prospects so anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Slafkovsky scores at a very mediocre rate in regular season play and then has a great Olympics. That kind of thing scares me off.

Cooley likely won't be there at No. 5. He seems likely to go in the top 3 or 4. Slafkovksky is a Slovak although he plays in Finland.

Savoie is a dynamic offensive talent but is very small and has to improve significantly in his overall game unless his future is as a speedy playmaking winger rather than as a center.

Thanks, Bill. Is this also why the Flyers haven't given Konecny a look at C, even though he was a C in Juniors?

Obviously, most of us cannot even pretend to know much, in anything, about these prospects. Yea there is Bill and some on here that are knowledgeable and watch these kids play, but the overwhelming majority of us go by what we read from Button & his colleagues. Hopefully they pick a future NHL top liner and not an OBrien, Rubstov, or Patrick. Of course NJ leapfrogged over us and bumped us down in the draft lottery.

On to actually known NHL players, is anyone else a bit nervous about this “aggressive retool”? Anyone else fear more Risto-like moves, Ghost moves, overpaying FA moves, bad coaching moves, other GMs giving up less than value for players like TK, Provy, Sanheim, type moves?

Why?

Both of the contracts are signing a star to an extra long over priced deal.
Shea's offer sheet was more egregious as Flyers would have lost 4 first round picks with it.

Weber didn't have to be bought out.

Well, Puljujarvi had a mediocre regular season and then a great WJC in his draft year. Oh, wait...

Do you scout the players, or is this based on the scouting reports?
- bradster

Scouting reports, scout rankings, video. No different from any of the rest of us. Including Bill.

If they’re seriously considering taking Cutter or Snuggerud they’d better be moving back is all I’m saying because one of them if not both will certainly still be there at 12-14

Konecny didn't play much center even in the latter part of his junior career but, essentially the answer is yes. They had him pegged as a future NHL winger, not center, pretty much all along.

Ok.
But it's a rearview mirror driving.
And it's irrelevant to this era discussion, so we might as well stop.

Only because he was too injured to play anymore with five years left on it.

People really have to put Savoie’s size in perspective with todays game. He’s 5’9” and the sky is falling when people talk about his height. I don’t hear Jack poop about 5’10” prospects which are extremely common now. Hell, Savoie is already over 180lbs while many of the other forwards are in the 170’s. It’s ridiculous.

Neither did Suter at the time he was bought out, Wild Chose to because they wanted to protect Dumba.

Weber is also signed until 40. He was likely going to be bought out at some point had he not had a career ending injury. Believe Suters deal went to 40 as well

Possibly but he was still playing at a high level before injury and led his team to the Cup finals.

Technically no player needs to be bought out but Minnesota decided to move on. Likely is not the same as did.

Suter is still a good player at age 37. I wish we could have got him as a free agent instead of paying a ransom to Buffalo for Risto.

Curious for an update on Jiricek's rehab. Is he skating now? Seems since he got injured, there is just no new information.

Ok, it does look like Jiricek is back on the ice playing. Good news

I think they will take a D at the No. 5 slot unless someone falls to them. But A) the Flyers extensively scout the USNTDP, B) both Gauthier and Snuggerud are risers in scouting circles after the U18s and C) Central Scouting has Gauthier at no 3 on their final NA rankings (Snuggerud 11th) and Craig Button has them as his 7 & 8 overall. It's not remotely as far fetched as you suggest.

I'm sick of them taking who THEY covet.

Jesus, listen to experts for once. They SUCK at this.

Toxic is a little much isnt it? One guy said he complained alot. Only issue I had with the Suter deal was that it was too long. Parise never lived up to the contract he got in Minny
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Word has been leaking for years that the duo was toxic, unmanageable and uncoachable.

Suter demanding who his partners were, that they had to be RH, that he didn't want to play with certain players, etc. Dictating his own ice time, refusing to get off the ice during PPs playing the full 2:00. He'd go crying straight to the owner if he had any problems with the coaches. And remember this is the guy that hung up on his GM when he learned about the buy out. No thank you for the opportunity, nothing. Just click.

Parise wasn't much better.

Guerin put himself in cap hell just to get rid of them.

The more I study up on all these players who will be available, the more I lean towards Nemec.
- MBFlyerfan

This. I like nemec too but Cooley will be just as nice of a haul if we get either one
