This is the guy that Chuck Fletcher and his amazing eye for character thought was worth $98M over 13-years:

Can't wait to see what he does with that blank check this summer.

I'm not at all sold on Slafkovsky given the struggles of other recent highly regarded big Finnish wingers, so I'm actually glad the Flyers didn't move up. He should be gone by #5. I'd be happy (given my limited knowledge base) with any of:

Cooley
Nemec
Jiricek
Savoie

- Quetzalcoatl

I know very little about any of the prospects so anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Slafkovsky scores at a very mediocre rate in regular season play and then has a great Olympics. That kind of thing scares me off.

Same thing every year... people read the consensus rankings and take it as gospel. When we know all too well that consensus often doesn't hold up in retrospect. Yet people will still get all mad when the Flyers don't take the guy that Bob McKenzie says should have gone at #5.

🙄

- Tomahawk

Yep, I was just reading up on the 2017 draft and there were a few final rankings that had Makar around 9 or 10, below guys like Vilardi, Rasmussen, Mittelstadt, Tippett and sometimes Tolvanen.

An even more recent example is how the Red Wings got flamed for taking Seider so high.

While still a little early, Chucks drafts so far really haven't bared much fruit at all. You have York and Brink that is it. Brink may also get caught up in a number game as he can be sent down. Attard needs some AHL time. Others seem still a ways away

trade down with Buff for #9 and Florida's pick.

Or will Chuck even have the patience to make this pick? 2/3 players away screams trade for NHL player.....

- hello it's me 2050

I would do 5 for 9 and 16...depending on how top 4 picks fall

It is a little early… hasn’t picked really early where guys are pretty much ready to step in. It can take a few years when your not picking in the top 3-4.

If everything stays as is I think you have to go Savoie. I think Chuck will be trying to move up however. You just know he’s going to want Cooley.

Still, a future line of Savoie and Tippet would be pretty fun to watch.

- hereticpride

Hows he going to move up? We have no 2nd this year or next. We are picking 5th. It absolutley makes no sense to move up given the talent difference is minimal at best.

Foerster was on a good track a year ago, despite several injuries his first year with the Phantoms. It was a weakened AHL due to the Taxi Squads but he looked like the real deal as a young sniper.

That said, Foerster struggled in NHL camp this year and was also struggling early in the AHL before the shoulder injury and resulting surgery. At least he got back before the end of the season and got some OHL games in but was still playing catch-up in terms of his conditioning and timing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Desnoyers is a relative fast-track guy to the NHL although he likely will be the type who moves around a lineup with a bottom-six "base".

Wisdom will be the Phantoms next year. Another guy who lost most of a season to shoulder surgery. Came on at the end, especially in the playoffs. As with Foerster, he benefited from a weakened AHL a year ago and didn't get to test himself in a more normal AHL season due to injury.

Since the Flyers traded their first round pick last year, their top pick was Tuomaala in the 2nd round. This was a very disappointing season for him. He should have played in the OHL but had his heart set on the AHL or Liiga, and he simply wasn't ready to play against pros. We'll see what Kapanen can do with him over the summer. Sami said that Olli Jokinen is a believer in Tuomaala's abilities and is more of the "right" fit as his head coach with Jukerit Mikkeli club whereas he wasn't a good fit with Sport Vaasa or head coach Risto Dufva's preference for more old-school buttoned down style of hockey.

I think Brink needs AHL time anyway. He showed flashes of his ice vision and passing ability in shifts here and there over several games but, apart from the game in Montreal (which was a preseason-like game with lots of time and space to make plays), he had trouble sustaining it over the balance of a game.

Attard does need some AHL time, too, but he improved rapidly with the Flyers after some rough early games.

Dont you think that every GM has something like that in their pre last lock-out era?

There is a story of ex- Flyer Shea Webber that springs to mind.

That was a bit of sarcasm, but he was a few hours away of becoming a Flyer for 14 years.

Did not he signed his agreement to become a Flyer?

No, not every GM has signed two toxic, entitled star players to 13-year contracts and then let them run rampant in the room.

I would think they get McClennon signed before losing his rights. He has a good chance at becoming at minimum a productive AHL offensive player. But has a great attitude -- very much a can-do sort and a good teammate -- so possibly he could surprise and find an NHL role at some point as more than a fill-in type. Overall, he fits the profile of a good AHLer. But they need some more of those, too.

The plan for Andrae -- and hopefully he will be fine for next year after the injury -- is for him to move up to play a year in SHL (he has nothing to prove with another Allsvenskan season) and then to come over.

Toxic is a little much isnt it? One guy said he complained alot. Only issue I had with the Suter deal was that it was too long. Parise never lived up to the contract he got in Minny

Why?

Both of the contracts are signing a star to an extra long over priced deal.
Shea's offer sheet was more egregious as Flyers would have lost 4 first round picks with it.

Bill, you can’t possibly think Cutter Gauither or or Snuggerud are even remotely on the Flyers radar at 5. Those would be massive reaches.

I don’t even like Kemell at 5.

You need AHL guys as well is correct.
