Actually pretty lucky to get out of that period down by 2...

Yup. Killing that 5 on 3 was a bit of a miracle.

Trade Nylander in the off-season.

Fire Keefe, bring in Trotz. Dubas gets one more year as GM.

Maybe Keefe needs to go. But he is not the problem.

Finally get a call. If they waste the entire PP shifting the puck around up high looking for the tap in play or perfect shot I'm gonna have an aneurysm. Put the (frank)ing puck on net.
- joel878

Only Rielly seems to want to flick his peewee shot at the net on the pp. That's the wrong guy unfortunately but nobody else is shooting

I'll give Tampa credit, they are doing a good job making it tough to put the puck on net. They're a nightmare in their own zone right now. But 4 shots from a team that's supposed to be leaving it all out there... (frank)ing embarrassing.
- joel878

Agreed but I think one of the other issues is that they have no idea how to get to rebounds. Once that puck gets on net, it has to go in otherwise its cleared, they aren't able to get second chances. Probably why they are always trying to setup for the perfect shot which is rarely there in the playoffs.

You can tell they're in their own heads when Matthews isn't shooting. How many (frank)in times he holds up on the shot from the wing and passes back to Rielly? Him and Marner are starting to do dumb poop all over the place, MTL series all over again. 🤮

Keefe needs to go full Torts. Get mad. Overturn a table and spill some gatorade and rip em.
- Roadrunner75

What it boils down to is the leafs top 6 need to get going in this game.

And he should tear into them.

If I was Keefe I’d go full on Jedi mind trick… I wouldn’t even go in the room or have the assistants going there… just make all the guys look at each other…

People take this as whining, but you know what? Can you rewind? Go watch these plays now:

Marner breakaway (Cirelli hits his gloves). I didn't care at the time, because I figured it was the precedent for the period, but it clearly wasn't.

Nylander penalty (guy chicken wings the stick and falls down, but Nylander isn't even holding the stick) <-- Call Nylander because the reach around is dumb, but call the dive.

Giordano penalty (Perry just fell down)

Bunting hit from behind no call

Marner hooking on McDonagh (where was it?)

Sergachev cross checks Tavares (no call).

This period, effort aside, was a (frank)ing joke.

Yeah. I dont get that at all.

And it isnt just the top 6. M&M least trying doing something but Bunting is only starting to show anything (pass due to injury). JT Kerfoot Willy. Non factors. Mik inconsistent but trying. Engavall Spezz Blackwell. Non existent. Kampf trying but…

Too many no shows

Matthews is better on the other side IMO. It's an awkward catch and release where they have him now on the PP. Not sure why Keefe doesn't try switching that up

I have no clue what to do? Is it Keefe's fault that the PP won't f'n shoot?

No one will commit to hard defense (shot blocking, physical interaction, closing gaps hard). If they can remedy these in the 2nd and 3rd, maybe they can make a game out of this and not let Tampa dictate it - but they can't be this porous and easy in their own zone.

Im not saying Keefe is the whole problem, if this team can’t get past the Bolts this is on Dubas too - more so I would argue.

But Keefe has been out coached now 3 for 3 series. It’s frustrating that there are no answers for the big lines being so thoroughly confined.

Still time left to turn it around, but holy (frank) this is one helluva hill.

It’s game like this the top 6 needs to prove they’re highly paid for a reason.

Bunting isn’t working because TB won’t let him crash the net… he’s become known as a diver in the league so the refs won’t call a penalty on TB when it comes to their treatment of him unless it’s obvious.

M&M need to score. This is when Keefe has to play them against every damn line (since in this game he has the final faceoff call) until they start producing.

The second line has done nothing. They’re trying but I do honestly think it may be time to mix the top 6 up to try and fix that.

Yes it’s important to get secondary goals from the bottom six but if you want to succeed in the postseason the top 6 has to produce every game… even if it’s only line 1 or 2 in each game.
