That's why I said there's only one Crosby. |

ok, so all 3 of them aren't..? - Pat1993
to me generational is 99, 66, 87, 97.
the others (OV, Matthews, MacKinnon...) are very good, but not generational. imho |

agreed on Matthews, that one is much more debatable.
I think it's silly to not consider Ovechkin as generational, I get the anti-Russian sentiment but jfc...
also, it's a lot of pressure but those guys usually pull through, because they're just that good.

I am not defending the guy.
Just saying he does not annoy me.
Also, a lot of talking heads get a lot of things wrong, too.
So, meh. - Mashadar

that has nothing to do with being russian lol
generational doesn't mean every 2 years.
to me generational is a player above the others who changes the way the game is played, who has won cup and gold. OV is very good. same as Matthews. but they do not bring something different or lead their teams higher. it took over 10 years for OV to win a cup!
I did place McDavid in that list because of his speed, but he better makes some noise in the playoffs soon, otherwise he might get off the list.
and in a certain way, I would consider putting Roy on that list. he won, often by himslef, and changed the way goalies plays. he also inspired a ton of kids to become goalie, we saw after him many goalies from Qc in the league. |

meh, strongly disagree about Ovechkin, to me the fact that it took longer for him to win the cup doesn't say anything about his individual talent. he might beat Gretzky's record for goals scored for (frank)'s sake, what more do you want...

I think guys like Crosby and Ovechkin have played enough to make it without a doubt. I think someone lime McDavid has proven he is beyond a doubt, given he is the best player in hockey right now, even with a shorter career to date.
I lump McKinnen in with Matthews, and Draisaitl as probably, but time and years will tell.
But generational is kind of a misnomer... more like you get a guy like this maybe 1 out of over 3 or 4 drafts.
And that is what makes them special.
Not necessarily generational.

not a big fan of comparisons but if he turns out into a Bergeron I'll be very happy about it. |
