Back to drafting- I want Slafkovsky.. big, shot, good skating skills IIRC from watching his olympic performance. He will finish and create space for himself as well. More like a modern day Jagr though more nimble feet.
Funny thing, a teammate on the Slovak team was Michal Cajkovsky who was playing in Reading a few years ago just after his junior career ended. He was another skilled player who had size skills and a monster shot from the point as he showed in the Olympics. Met him when he was with the Royals, had some interesting ink on his arms..
Oh yeah Trotz in a heartbeat - RajaAmpat
Give me Slafkovsky or Nemec. I’m moving up to 2 for either. |

I don’t think Trotz is a good fit in Philly. His development of the young players has been disappointing. Beauvillier, Wallstrom, Bellows and Salo have not progressed well. Even Barzal has underachieved. Dobson and Sorokin are the only ones with a nice progression.

As long as he skates with his head up we should be good. |

Isles dont have the talent though. Their team on forward is actually worse than the Flyers on paper. They have Barzal, thats it. Beau and Whalstrom are still fairly young and may have top 6 potential but everyone else is a glorified 3rd liner.

We can only hope he is half the player Lindros was.

Good point. Even with the bad year, the Isles were in the top 25% in fewest goals allowed. His discipline is good for a team. His smothering checking and dump and chase may stifle the offensive style potential that Frost, Brink and even Cates has. He’s a positive but possibly at the expense of the youth.

Interesting read from The Fourth Period
https://www.thefourthperi...office-changes-for-flyers - xShoot4WarAmpsx "From everything I’ve heard from those within the organization, getting back into the playoffs is still the ultimate goal for next season."
No vision at all just a lazy need to make the playoffs mantra.

About 30 hours from now, the # 1 overall pick will be secured and Trotz will be on his way to the Flyers. That is the way this franchise rolls. |

If you like either one, then moving up to 3 would work fine. You just take whichever the team in 2nd doesn’t take. And if Wright and Cooley go 1, 2, then you really only need the 4th pick.
Wright is gonna go #1. Absolutely. He might totally be the wrong choice. He might be a complete bust. But he will go #1.
He’s been he consensus pick there for a long time. Nobody is going to pass him by and reach for someone else, because if they are wrong, it will cost them their job. Guaranteed. If they choose him and he’s a bust, people can at least say “Sorry, boss. It was a slam dunk. Everyone thought so. Honest! Remember? The kid just never took the next step.” That goes from scouting all the way up to the GM. If you have a boss and are responsible for personnel, you take the consensus #1.
Any other pick in the draft, you can apply the skills of your trade and take a chance somewhere.
Maybe that’s not how it should be, but that’s how it is. |

I think if the flyers re-sign Zac Mac that might push Trotz to philly.

I very much agree. He would be a good coach for a Vegas or Winnipeg team.
Flyers need to abandon this idea of competing immediately.
He favors 4th line type players far too much for my liking, and again I worry very much about his ability to extract creative offensive talent. He is a guy that is hired when you are actually close to making some noise, the Flyers are definitely not. |

I dont see how it works tbh. Coach is in the locker room with the guys, the guys shower, get dressed and often walk around nude in the locker room. If the roles were reverse and it was a male coaching a female team. It wouldnt be appropriate for the man to be in that locker room right? - xShoot4WarAmpsx
There are females working in male sports environments. That easily worked around.

Trotz pros
1) Gets immediate buy in from players.
2) His teams play with strong structure in all 3 zones
3) Strong defensive teams
4)Plays a heavy forecheck
Cons
1) Limits high end offensive potential of players due to style of play
2) Players tend to get frustrated over time and want to play more wide open

The Flyers won’t be contenders for awhile. Trotz will get you boring 3-1 losses. If I’m a fan, I want a young innovative coach with a bent toward uptempo offense. Puck possession with offensive creativity and a forecheck to get the puck back. Anything to defend less. Those 3-1 losses may become 6-4 losses but you have better entertainment until the team gets better. Creating offense is hard and you have to have the puck to do it.

I agree. You have to be strong defensively but it's an attack league. It's a goal scoring league. No matter how good defensively you are, you have to score. I like a better balance like Brindy has in Carolina.

Just off the top, Nelson and Lee are better scorers than Barzal.

Who else do they have on forward?
Lee, Palmeri, Parise, Nelson, Pageau, Bailey, Cizikas, Martin, Clutterbuck, Beauvileier and Whalstrom
Which of the above are currently top 6 players? Answer is none of them. Only 4 forwards had more than 40 points. Two forwards had more than 50, one overachieved and the other underachieved.

Exactly. The Flyers are in a tough division with Sorokin and Shesterkin being premier goalies. You have to generate offense to beat them.
