KD is not going to pay $4 mil. for Trotz, but I bet Vegas would. I bet Trotz would pick Detroit over the Hawks, If Toronto is bounced again, I bet they would pay Trotz the big bucks. Unles Wirtz promises Trotz a beer distributorship, the chances of Trotz coming to Chicago is slim to noen IMO. - LAHawk
All very plausible reasons why Trotz isn’t likely to pick Chicago… however, I still want KD and the Hawks organization to try and land him.
Perhaps offering him a longer than market-average contract term would be attractive - some stability to coincide with what the Hawks see as a commitment to a 4-5 year rebuild? Decent money (but not top end), long term stability and an understanding that you’re not in a win-now situation. That might be attractive to Trotz? |

Also, if Trotz were to come to Chicago, he would definitely want Kane to stay. Would Kane want to stay in a system that is going to be basically defensive oriented, and not as freeflowing offensively?

Even though he did get a lot out of those teams in Nashville - I would expect to see Trotz with a team that is close and wants to win now.
I could see him taking over in Florida if Florida peters out of the playoffs. They have the pieces and maybe some experience behind the bench puts them over the edge, again if they don't win this year.
Edmonton perhaps could be an attractive option and maybe Vegas but those seem more like places where coaches go to die.
I think at this stage in his career Trotz is a guy you bring in to get you over the hump not guide you through the rebuild. |

Over the years, Kane has demonstrated an increasing openness and ability to adjust to changing circumstances. Oddly enough, I appreciate his attitude toward the team more than Toews now - something I’d never thought I’d say several years ago.
Kane seems like he wants to win - he can connect the dots to what Trotz would do for this team toward that end. Both DCat and Kane would be OK in a more structured system. |

I would agree with you here.....he has won a cup, and likely wants to go somewhere where the window to win is open and ready. Not sure he is looking to sit through a rebuild for a few more years while trying to get younger kids to play HIS system.
Philadelphia
Vegas
Possibly Toronto, Edmonton, or even Calgary....all dependent upon how far they go this spring and IF management wants to retain their current coach(es) - SteveRain
Trotz takes one look at the Hawks roster and crumples up the paper and throws it in the garbage can. Repeats same looking at the Philly roster.
If Rangers blow this series to Pitt their owner might go nuts and fire Gallant for Trotz.
How about Trotz in Florida taking a high talent offensive squad and teaching some defence to get them ready for eventual playoff success?

All good points as usual Rick. Outside of having his kid(s) and winning the cup this might be the best thing to happen for him. No question he'll have a lot of options. And starting over with a rebuilding team figures to be on the low end of them.

He signed partly for the big contract, partly because he liked Shanahan’s vision for the team and partly because he saw there was some talent in the pipeline. |

I don't think KD is ready to throw a lot of zero's to any coach of the Hawks right now.

15.4 chance of moving into the 1st (7.5) or 2nd (7.9) spot!!! 41.4 to 7th and 9.1 to 8th. A lot to look forward here. |

100% chance the Hawks land the #2 overall pick this year and the #1 overall pick next year (and lose it to Columbus). |

Unless you are powerenforcer with the latest conspiracy theory, there really is nothing to look forward to in regards to the actual draft show. Since, none of us, KD or anything else really has an effect on how the proverbial ping pong balls bounce, who cares. Either the Hawks will be picking first or second, or CLB will have the pick.
Between when the order is set and July 7th there will be fun with all the speculation.

Saw Fatty bring up the Panthers as well....makes sense. They are a talented team but seem to have some moronic defensive lapses.
Ahh....best of 3 for the Bolts to pull it off. Think we are due for the defensive game where Tampa flexes that championship pedigree and locks it down....3-1. |

If you believe that some of the prospects will become good or even very good NHL dmen, then Bowman gets credit for setting the table as far as the blueline crew.
Of course it will be a few years until a review of the prospects shows who made the NHL. And how good or promising their appraisal.
Perhaps in a few years this board could be talking about trading from our strength (defensemen) so as to upgrade our top six forwards - jhawk59
The only thing Bowman gets credit for at this point is absolutely gutting this franchise. regardless of how many of those D prospects eventually make it and contribute.
Murphy, McCabe and deHaan have been more horrible than good. S.Jones has been ok, but is a borderline #1D, not the cornerstone defenseman for your team to sink a long term, top dollar contract into. These are guys that Bowman determined to be solid defensive pieces while, regardless of the reasons, guys like Joki, Boqvist, Rutta, Forsling, TVR, etc. play meaningful minutes, some for playoff teams. |

A defense made up of those 5 will not get you close to the playoffs either.

You know, there was a time I actually liked the Leafs. I’m talking the Clark, Gilmour, Andreychuk, Potvin teams.
But… something about this present organization makes me really, really (I mean really) enjoy watching them lose in the playoffs. |

Wow that was a period of little patience with Trotz. Miss one playoff and out. Think they were eliminated by TB twice recently?
A lot going on there, not sure how it fits with Trotz's timeline but they lost Tavares, Toews and Eberle over 4 years or so.
He'll be behind the bench somewhere next year- Wings? - Popsghostly

No they won't, but not one of them has a cap hit more than $2.5M and all of them can contribute as much if not more than any one of the triumvirate of slugs making between $4-4.5M for the Hawks.

Probably not, but in reality many teams may not like him or want him as a head coach. |
