Trotz was fired....one of the few guys who can take a bad roster and maximize it.....

He couldn't recover from the loss of Leddy. ..

He’s not the only one. I’d take Trotz here for some of the reasons previously mentioned…

PLEASE Hawks, make at least a strong push for Trotz. Definitely need the help in the neutral zone big time, and can also help these young kids really become more two way players.

Totally agree.

Lou making room for Lane Lambert to become head coach before some other team poaches him? Some have mentioned him as a possible coach here and I heard his name mentioned as a candidate with other teams.

I'm guessing Lou will hire Colliton.

Edit: or maybe former Islander Derek King?????

Ha! Not to correct on your other post but pretty sure you meant “without” becoming Keenan or Torts, which I think is something they could use too…a bit of continuity vs a guy who comes in and whips them into shape then in short order wears out his welcome.

Ages ago, but Brian Sutter was a Hawk coach for maybe 2-3 yrs. He got the team to overperform for a season then probably a combo of guys tuning him out and the milk curdling sent him packing.

I did mean "without". I will correct it for posterity.....

I have always respected Trotz for his ability to get something out of almost nothing and in Nashville he did it for years and years. No flash in the pan. And of course I'd love to see him here. He won a cup in Washington after somehow getting OV to buy in so perhaps he could get Kane to buy in to a D first system. But because he's won a cup and has had better teams to work with in recent years I wonder if he would want to start all over again. But if so count me in and deal the cards.

Like others have said Trotz would be a good fit here. But does he want to become the coach of a team years away from being a contender, or go where he has a chance to win another Cup? I wouldn't be surprised if Vegas fires Deboer and brings Trotz in.

Do we bring in DeBoer if so? Appears turmoil in LV not on him but injuries, poor roster moves, etc. Did well in Ottawa and SJ.

Trotz?
Definitively, an NHL head coach. Just the same, I would like to see some definitive and complete thoughts from him regarding his departures from the Capitols and the Islanders. His next job will very likely be his fourth NHL head coaching job, this much we can likely guesstimate.

Yes Vegas had a lot of injuries and questionable roster moves. Their owner seems to be going all in on winning a Cup and the roster isn't getting any younger. I'm just thinking with a Cup winning coach suddenly available, they'll find a reason to dismiss Deboer and hire Trotz.

I may be mistaken but with the Caps Trotz won the Cup in the final year of his contract and Caps management cheaped out and didn't want to pay him what he was asking. On the Isle I think it was more cap issues and Lou Larms thinking he was smarter then the average bear and dealing away a guy like Devon Toews.

I believe the Hawks were Q's third team.

Doubtful. Islanders fans say he doesn't like using young players. Prefers to use veterans over young players a lot.

Pierre McGuire just got canned in Ottawa. Which brings me back to 2018:

Not long before the Hawks fired Q, I heard from a previously decent source. It looked like Q just might win the power struggle with McD/Stan. And there was wild talk of hockey ops being run by some combination of McGuire and Edzo.

Now that we're 3.5 years out, did anyone else ever hear anything along those lines? Or how things went down / changed?

The constant critique most of us have had over the last five seasons or so is that this team lacks a coherent system and a roster committed to playing within it - particularly on defense.

And then Trotz, THE coach who exemplifies getting teams to do just that is inexplicably fired by the Isles…

This is a gift KD, please take advantage of it.

KD is not going to pay $4 mil. for Trotz, but I bet Vegas would. I bet Trotz would pick Detroit over the Hawks, If Toronto is bounced again, I bet they would pay Trotz the big bucks. Unles Wirtz promises Trotz a beer distributorship, the chances of Trotz coming to Chicago is slim to noen IMO.

I would agree with you here.....he has won a cup, and likely wants to go somewhere where the window to win is open and ready. Not sure he is looking to sit through a rebuild for a few more years while trying to get younger kids to play HIS system.

Philadelphia
Vegas
Possibly Toronto, Edmonton, or even Calgary....all dependent upon how far they go this spring and IF management wants to retain their current coach(es)

I think to get Trotz, hawks would have to overpay and Trotz would need to pass on a few likely higher pressured, win now jobs....see what he wants to do. I would take him a second...those Nashville teams always gave the Hawks fits in the opening round.
