It depends how they lose. I would be ok with them losing but throwing everything they had at Tampa. Last night, however, was a (frank)ing leafy joke. - fifty__missions

If they lose to Tampa, I think 88 or 16 is getting traded.. |

Counting tonight, in the Matthews era the Leafs' playoff W/L when:
Trailing the series: 7-3
Series is even: 7-10
Leading the series: 1-8
And a lot of those eight losses were awful, like tonight. Not hard to see the pattern. - Down Goes Brown

If they lose and mail in their final effort, the whole management team and coaching staff are likely gone, and then new people are going to determine what this team needs. That determination will come with the flexibility cap space gives them coupled with the value they could potentially receive in any move. Marner gets you more space and assets but sets you back further than Nylander does.
I don't know. We need some moves from Keefe, too, in Tampa.
Not dumb moves like Kerfoot on the first line. He brings nothing that they need. I'm bashing him a little, but Kerfoot is soft and fast and a decent passer with an ok but not threatening shot. He rarely wins battles on the boards. What is he doing with Matthews and Marner that someone else couldn't do better?
If he has to, split up Matthews and Marner for a shift here and there. Get one of them away from the best defender. Make Cooper adjust. Do some actual coaching.

It's pretty funny, right? The ONLY move Lou has done since joining the Islanders that was actually good, and he fires the guy after an injury and COVID riddled season? He's the only reason they made the playoffs in the past couple of years. |

This was the type of stuff last night that killed the leafs. Weak calls that led to goals.
https://twitter.com/ticta...&t=jvbdH5wVHtmc0_5GzvrhHg
Pretty sure Tampa scored off of this one. Leafs didn’t deserve to win after their start but the refs controlling the flow of the game is a problem. Only time leafs got a call was when tb was already on the pp. Just a disaster all the way around. |

I agree with this. I also don’t like that he doesn’t start Matthews. Last night they were down 1 before Matthews gets to see the ice. |

If they lose Game 5, I could see that happening in Game 6.. Put Marner with Tavares for a game..
Nylander and Tavares are not clicking at all.. Tavares looks tired after every shift, I guess from battling along the boards and then having no one to pass the puck too becausem who knows where Nylander went?
I agree on the Kerfoot assessment, hasn't done much on the top line.. Put Bunting back up there with Matthews and Marner, move Kerfoot to the 4th line for Game 5.
Need Campbell to come up big again, like in game 1 and 3.
I would even try Clifford again on the 4th line.
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Mikheyev-Tavares-Kase
Engvall-Kampf-Nylander
Clifford-Kerfoot-Spezza/Simmonds.
Rielly Lyubushkin
Muzzin Brodie
Gio Liljegren
If they come out flat and lose tomorrow night.. Then who knows what they'll do in Game 6..

I expect a major shuffle if the Leafs don't get past the 1st round. Fair or not, I don't see Dubas surviving another early exit. |

Leafs have two games where Keefe can keep Matthews away from Cirelli. That is a big advantage. |
