My first hockey game was March, 1977 - Habs vs Rockies. I was 8 years old.

I vividly remember being disappointed because Lafleur did not get a goal... he only got 4 assists.

Maybe that is where my issue with the right column started.

LOL.

For what it's worth, I never blamed Houle for being a terrible GM.

I always blamed Ronald Corey for naming him.

Houle was working on his own thing when he got a call from Corey who offered him the GM job.

Houle, a loyal soldier, simply couldn't say no to helping out the Habs once again. Because he loves them so goddamn much.

He did the best he could. He was terrible, but he did his best.

The reality was, he never should have been put in this position.

I saw my first Hab game in the fall of 1991, the night Richer was traded.

Preseason, against Boston.

It's true though... no bubble playoffs = no Suzuki coming out party and no Toffoli and co. free agent season because the Habs were the only one with cap space and permission to spend. With no covid, that magical run doesnt happen

Yeah, I get that.

Houle genuinely seems like a really good guy, but he also shoulda known he was over his head.

I was 16 at the time of these hires, and I still remember how I thought it was a weird, and bad idea. Honestly I don't know what Ronald Corey was thinking.

I'm sure I've posted this before, and I can't say if it's true for sure, but I heard that Roy went to Corey and apologized the next day, and Corey basically said "what's done is done, we're trading you".

Like I said maybe that's true, maybe it isn't, I don't know..

I was 9 years old when Houle was hired and I've always seen it that way because that's how my dad explained the whole thing to me. He already knew it was going to be a disaster.

He still throws some good wisdom here and there for sure.

Although he was angry when the Habs drafted Caufield because he was a "small american player" instead of a ti-gars de chez nous.

Let's just say I'm rubbing this one in for a few years still.
