Agreed. I just fear the front office will hire him as some sort of 'selling point' to the fans. "We know the team sucks but come watch for our coach! He might start a fight between periods! Stay tuned for his post game press conferences too, he'll yell at some writers or say nothing at all!" - TobyFlenderson
Haha, selling point to the fans, definitely not a selling point to most UFAs tho
As for trying to start fights between the benches, here's Gronborg:
No, of course not. I replace the bulb right away without any thought about it because it's an easily fixed issue. I would not, however, let it distract me or take time away from fixing the real issue. The new bulb doesn't make my house measurably better. The fixed roof does. - Scoob
Excellent, another main point, the reason it is talked about so widely—99.9% of fans do not feel the obvious will be fixed.
I agree that he will push them. But I don't think you get to this level without toughness, mental and physical. We need someone who knows talent to figure out who should stick and who should walk. He knows good players and can be expected to sort them out on that basis. Plus, he hates complacency. If a player is there just for the check, they will be gone. Our management team just does not have its big boy pants on for a ride like Torts would give us and them. Yeo is what they like: he shows up at a season-ending press conference when his team is a turd in the punch bowl and says that even Scotty B could not have won with them. Pretty ironic since the last team he coached was also playing miserably when he got canned and they went on to win the SC. We are such a joke. - iamscore2day
I think a good amount of these players are beyond rapair for a coach like Torts. Think it would go south.
Also not so sure Comcast wants to shell out big bucks at this time for a coach.
Comcast has to want this fixed asap. They’ll spend whatever it takes imo.
Of course they have no clue how to fix it. - hereticpride
We disagree on the spending. We shall see.
If they give out a 5 year deal even they know he won't last the 5 years. At some point they stop with the big money coaches
Most fans could careless about a blank check in those other areas. Means very little to fans. Not going to get a fan base exicted imo - hello it's me 2050
And yet that's exactly what Chuck is trying to sell everyone on...his blank cheques that allowed him to re-vamp the medical team, the analytics and player development, skills coach...on and on and on. Those are all literal answers Fletcher gave when asked about how he's improving the team.

Did we spend this money to go from bad to dreadful in the medical area? How did our revamped team help sort out Ellis's predicament? How does CF still have a job?

I've seen enough, sign him immediately - TobyFlenderson
That was after a win too lol. Dude's pretty intense.
On top of that, he preaches possession hockey with a hybrid NA/Swedish style of play that is tailor-made for the current game. Fluent in English, married to an American, lot of WJC medals (including gold), multiple WC golds, and currently in his 3rd season coaching one of the top pro teams in Europe.

They already spend to the cap. That is not news. I’m excited if the changes bring about a better product.

"This year we’ve had a really tough year. What I can tell you is two things. I guess, on a macro level, first of all, the man I work for, Dave Scott, he’s given us everything in terms of resources, the ability to spend to the cap, we have a great development staff, we brought Danny (Briere) in, we brought new analytics people in, we brought new medical, a new athletic trainer, new strength and conditioning. So, we are trying to do our best to bring in the best resources in, have the best staff, and we’ll spend to the cap." - Chuck Fletcher 2 months ago
Yeah, that new medical, trainer, s&c .....not working out so well it would seem. Great hires!
