well, actually you did!

I didn't say get rid of the guy. I just said he can't play anywhere higher than the 4th line. Been a major problem with this team for years now. Guys playing higher in the lineup than they should be. I mean, they had Braun playing as a first line defender and Laughts playing on the second line. This stuff must stop at once. You need players properly placed in the lineup to have success. And yes, of course I know injuries were a big part of it this year.

We continually read from uninformed posters on players.

Not every poster can be Cliff Claven.

Should the flyer build around sean couterier?

We are right about a lot of players. It just seems that some fans have a blind spot when it comes to some players. Laughton does almost all his scoring at even strength, so his overall numbers will never be as sexy as we would like. What he is, is a solid all around player at a good cap hit who can play anywhere in the lineup. He is part of the solution moving forward.
- MBFlyerfan

I agree overall but in terms of the final comment. He certainly is that kind of player. However, it depends on the Flyers plan to me and what they're going to do. If they plan to keep Frost and Tippet on the 3rd line with another young player. Then where does that leave Laughton and Lindblom? In my opinion both are better than 4th liners and they have too high of a cap hit for the 4th line. Too expensive. So if that's the play, I would look to trade both Laughton and Lindblom. Both players have value.

So now you want to trade Laughton when last deadline you did not. You were ecstatic about him being re-signed. Core player you said. Now why the flip flop?

Should the Flyers build around ex selke?

The problem with the Flyers for years now has been their "top" and highest priced players not performing to expectations, not necessarily just production. Yet, this board and many others continue to complain about their "4th liner" or "6/7th defenseman". No team, I repeat NO TEAM loses because they have a bad depth player. The team may have issues when they get to the playoffs or even deeper, but which depth player on the Flyers sucks is the least of their concerns.
- Glak18

Teams certainly lose in the playoffs because of a lack of quality depth. The 4th line is definitely an issue. I don't subscribe to the hey it's down the depth chart of issues so lets not deal with it philosophy.

Oooops....Well, it is Monday morning and my brain is at half mast after a long weekend. Anyway, I certainly wouldn't care if they moved on from him. Hell, I saw your latest post that you want to trade him, so there is that.

This statement is completely untrue!! He CANNOT play anywhere in the lineup! That is the problem. Even the guy that wrote your precious article mentioned this. I'm not saying that they need to get rid of the guy, but I've never understood the praise for this guy either. He's just there year after year. If he is playing higher than fourth line in your lineup than your team seriously lacks forward depth. It's really as simple as that. I mean, there are actually people on here that think this guy should be the next captain. Eh what?

- Phillywhiteout

You're right, he's just there every year. Scoring at a solid rate at ES and playing well over all. Like clock work.

The Flyers number 1 problem is they can't finish chances. They actually generate good scoring chances quite often, they just can't finish them. This is solely due to the fact the Flyers don't have top end talent on their roster or in their system (at least that we are aware of). That is why this draft and possibly next draft are so important for the future of this team. Teams are not going to trade their top-end talent to the Flyers, unless its a situation like what happened to Laine in Winnipeg, and let's face it, he's not the type of player that you want on your team. Thus the best way to obtain top-end talent is to draft high, so we have to hope the Flyers get lucky with the ping pong balls on May 10th, and hope Fletcher convinces Scott to be patient and let the kids play next season.
- jd250

The Flyers were 30th in the league in generating scoring chances. Not to mention their dismal PP. So it's not just about finishing.

correct. The GM can multi task and address more than one need a at time. Though with Chuck maybe not.

When have I called people names? I don't make things personal on here. Only the one clown that always makes it personal with me cause his panties are in a bunch that I don't like his Sixers. I may challenge people's knowledge of hockey on here, but I rarely speak out of turn. Sorry your feelings are hurt. I do the eye test when it comes to games. Laughts was invisible after he came back from injury and that was my point. Where did I EVER call you a name? I'll wait.........

Of the 16 playoff teams. Which one is Zac cracking the lineup on?

Zac is an AHL player. Lets say your 4th line was Oscar - Laughton - Zac. Which is more likely:

1. Zac drags that line down.

2. Those 2 can elevate Zac.

- hello it's me 2050

So if you take a 4th liner from ANY team in the NHL and replaced him with MacEwen, do the Flyers win more games?

Do you believe that an improved 4th line would make the Flyers a better team? The Flyers GF% when MacEwen was on the ice was 37%

You are asking the wrong question.

Are the Flyers a better team with any of those 4th liners over Zac?

If the Flyers swapped their 4th line with ANY team in the NHL this year, on paper I believe they are better, but I don't believe they win many more games.

See above.

Update:

Best team in the NHL this year: Florida Panthers

If this was the Flyers 4th line...

Lomberg-Luostarinen-Hörnqvist

They are in the same exact position they are now.

Just read Bill's writeup. Am I the only one with no confidence that Ellis will be in the lineup regularly next season?

Doesn’t matter. Flyers luck. If Seattle wins the ping pong balls will fall where pick #1 goes to slot 4. If Seattle finishes in 3rd and Flyers 4th, the Devils at 5 will get ping pong luck and #1. So let’s all just ask ourselves “does it really matter in the end given our luck?”

Hmm. You know, impact kind of depends on many factors…so if they are on the Flyer’s, how many games did they miss with injury? How often do the get raised to play in the middle-six or get matched against top lines? Are the frequently separated and played in different positions, off wing and center with different AHL call ups? So many questions…
