It's not 8 years until after this season is over, Shanny was brought in in 2014 and the 5 year plan was put in place then, which was 2019. What happened right about then???? Oh nothing just the global pandemic and a flat cap which was definitely not planned for in this 5 year rebuild.

Rebuild was over 2 seasons ago, when the world went sideways so in my opinion judging the success or lack thereof in the past 2 seasons doesn't mean they are doomed to fail again this year.

Game 1 is crucial in any series - until it's not.

Tampa can come back from losing game 1 more positively than the Leafs? Maybe but I'm not sure I feel the same, the core in Tampa got swept a year before the won the cup but all that means jack.

Yes the Leafs core needs to get success to validate them being the right core, but that's why they play the games and I do think this year is different. I am fully acknowledging I'm seeing the glass half full but it's far more enjoyable for me to view it that way vs the alternative and I personally don't think it's any less accurate or unrealistic to do so.

I also wont' proclaim the Leafs will win the cup if they get past Tampa, I just want to see them play a good hard series and win one game at a time and hopefully do what I do believe they have the ability to do which is win this series & move on.

We shall see!

The old saying goes; you're not really in trouble until you lose a home game. They best use their home ice as an advantage.

Game 1 is crucial. You can't fall behind the 2 time defending Stanley Cup Champions and chase the series. The psychological aspect of this will fall into play. The pressure from the press and the fans, in this market, is destructive. Win game 1 and try to build momentum. Lose and be ready for the aftershock. Leafs reality check time is tonight. Watch on Wokenet, Communist Broadcast Corporation(CBC TV), and ESPN2. TSN1050 Radio.

I wonder what the all-time series record is for home team's losing Game 1s in playoff history? Where's monkeypuck? He should be able to dig this up for us!

But yeah, a big win in Game 1 where the AM34-MM are dominant would be super fun and would set the tone.

I'm not accusing them of dressing too much toughness.

I'm saying that 4th line sucks.

It wasnt part of any teams plans, but playoff rounds and cups were still won.
Just not be Toronto.

Anywho, people can feel anyway they want to, one way is not any less "enjoyable" than the other.
We'll see how things look in two weeks when the first round dust settles.

So then what was the point of Keefe bothering with the hyperbolic "borderline violent" comment? Is he being silly or are we reading too much into it? (honest question)
- mjones242

Oh I think he’s trying a bit to send a message to the league. It’s easier to it before the series starts than to complain once it gets going. But I think it’s also reinforcing what he’s telling his players: tough it out boys cause it’s going to be a war.

But what do I know? I’m just a regular planet brain, not a galaxy brain

Good thing they're only going to play 7-8 mins in oZone heavy starts. If they play any more than that this team is in trouble.

Yeah, good point. Ticket prices are absurd and the SBA is not where the parties are at.

The crowd at Leafs playoff games is not the crowd at Leafs regular season games.

The playoff games are always rocking.

The Leafs are 15-3-2 in their last 20 GP.

Why did I choose 20 GP? Mark Giordan's tenure (who has 2g10a in those games).

Coincidence? 🤔

- mjones242

Well Gio's not known as a physical D either, so again I don't really get the "soft team" narrative that seems to follow this team around.

How many Tom Wilson's are there in the league? Very few. There are pest guys like Bunting and Marchand, but they're not really scaring anyone, are they?

I think the whole soft Leafs thing is way overblown.

Keefe is definitely a galaxy brain. This is one time where I think 4D chessifying might be useful.

I went to one when they played Washington.

Yeah it is rocking but not worth the money. Not even close.

Disagree strongly with that statement - the pessimistic, glass half empty view is a lot less enjoyable to many but everyone is entitled to have their own feeling or view on this.

Indeed we will see how things look in 2 weeks.

And others (this isn't directly at you specifically) can continue to proclaim that if the Leafs lose game 1 they are done and then if the Leafs do lose game 1 and the series those folks can stand on top of the soap box and loudly proclaim "See, See I told you" - do what makes you happy in life I guess, I don't see how that would do it (sure wouldn't for me) but maybe being right trumps seeing a team you are supposedly a fan of succeed.

Agreed! You can also register to get a pass for the area outside the rink to watch the game there. I got an email on it and they have food, alcohol and washrooms inside that fan zone. No smoking and no re-entry policy so if your a smoker your SOL!

Agreed! I wend to that first playoff game in 2014 when they hadn't been in the playoffs in something stupid like 9 years - it was simply insane.

You have made the incorrect assumption that those predicting a Leafs loss are going to be smug, gleeful or happy about it.

I really don't think I should have to defend my Leafs fandom - for frank's sake, 34% of my clothing has a franking Leafs logo on it.

But blind devotion isn't required to be a fan of the team.

It’s simple for me (most things are). They might win. They might lose. If they lose, I’ll be sad. But I’m not going to assume that loss (and accompanying sadness) today if they have a legitimate shot at winning.

Having no expectations is not a pessimistic view.
Anyone concerned about the leafs choking history is not a pessimistic view.
Anyone apprehensive about this team until they actually win a round is not pessimistic view.
Its BS to suggest it is.

I have no expectations of this team, I wont be surprised either way. I just enjoy watching the games as I watch them...if I have time to watch it.
