agreed

but the club invested the draft pick

this should not give the college kid free agency once done with school

non college kids have to wait what 3 years before they become a free agent

nothing wrong making a college kid wait 1 year to become a free agent

- homiedclown

I mean they are the ones holding out in the first place. I doubt most who finish college actually do it for the schooling/diploma. (as far as drafted players go)

I think it's a great discussion, but probably eliminates some college hockey players from chosing college.

These kids would be 22 and need a job, not very practical IMO

That's good in theory, but it punishes a player for chosing college.

College hockey is a great option

- Boss34

You hold the rights to CHL players for 2 years, Euro for 4, College for 4. What's the issue here?

VO signed in year 4. He would have been UFA that summer, same as a college player. The only real difference between Euro players and NCAA players are eligibility rules.

Not sure if there is a particular "issue" .

Just feels like the Sabres and cities (smaller and less attractive) are playing on an uneven playing field.

Now, we're losing out on Johnson, a big part of the ror deal.

The 2nd in 2024 helps, just feels like it should be a 1st IMO

That's actually why most of them do it. There are exceptions of course. But a player that plays four years in college isn't often good enough to have a long well paying career in the NHL, and need something else to fall back on. So it's kind of dumb to punish them for that.

VO isnt that good, which is undisputed fact.

😀😀😀😀

That was enough of your post to read, about the same 3% of the Sabres games you watch.

Just go away

- Boss34

Well, Reinhart sucks and doesn't try and both VO and Chuckle(frank) can't even come close to equaling Reinhart by himself, so... yeah, pretty undisputed.

Without it, it punishes teams.

Take your pick, have the team punished for selecting a player or a player for not wanting to join the club that drafted them.

I say punish the player. They owe it to the club that drafts them. IMO

they have a job waiting for them

all they have to do is sign the contract for the team that drafts them and get they 3 years at 800k to 1 mil per

pretty sweet deal

if they don't want that money, sit for a year

Has Johnson announced he was going back or is this all because he hasn't signed the contract that was given to him?
- SabresFaninIndiana

No announcement yet...they just want to doom and gloom about something even if it hasn't happened yet

I think most you get for Johnson is a 3/4 rd pick.
- ImThatGuy

Buffalo would let him walk to get a 2nd round pick if it comes to that

Kinda weird he hasn't signed, he automatically burns a year anyway, has a spot wide open.

I wonder if he's trying to gauge his chances of playing in the NHL vs. playing in the minors.

other leagues you have to sit out a year before you get a chance to sign with another team

why should college hockey kids be so special they do not have to sit a year?

If he waits for UFA, he'd get a 2 year ELC. Just another problem here. There's little benefit for him to sign a 3 year ELC this time next year, and burn the 1st year.

That's kinda why I discussed that trade, benefits both teams.
