Were any of them big games? I don’t think we ever played Sid in a playoff game in our good years, and we've been a dumpster fire otherwise during his career. What is there to hate? - lacaprup
What is there to admire lord purple helmet?
Ball spears? Crying to the refs ? Playing for the pens?
Your acting like pegs'ville and finishing 1st or last. No in between.
We were still rooting for the Sabres in those meaningless games correct? Just because he beat us in the outdoor game doesnt mean he took it easy the other 50 games.
F him

I mean I disagree, but I love this post. Pure sports hatred is the best. |

I was sick of how much they promoted him. Sabres vs Bruins game and the announcers would spend the game constantly bringing him up. This went on for years. |

And in the opposite breath, we would criticize the NHL for "not marketing its stars"...

Right. He was carrying all of Canada on his back from the day he was drafted and has always delivered. Class act off the ice, which matters when you're the face of the league. |

McDavid is much more likeable in this market because he was the guy the Sabres lost out on. As long as he doesn't put up much in the win column, that won't change. It still doesn't feel like as big of a loss. If he had won a Cup or two by now, especially with the way the Eichel saga ended here, look out. He would absolutely be public enemy #1 through no fault of his own. |

Very good point 19
Feels like we were all rooting for our little brother connor before we picked #2.
I think winning would make him less likable in buffalo. |

Give this man the C for the year and take it from there - Buff36
Him, Dahlin, or Tuch would all be popular choices for fans IMO. |

Giving him the C for a year or two would allow them to sort out the next captain.
I'd give my left arm to hear him talk candidly about what happened over the previous 5 years. |

I’ll take a stab at it -
They have an actual NHL caliber coach finally |

Agreed, but could Meatballs have fixed the locker room issues? |

either he did
or adams/terry did by trading jack
my guess is a combo of the lack of jack, the new coach and guys like kyle and girgens and tuch being able to speak up and rally the troops in the locker room where this could not happen with jack in the locker room

Probably not just jack, but mccabe, sam and risto aking others. Bad attitudes.
Tough to build around that group apparently |

Unfortunately the one thing that could actually fix it, because he was a big cause of it is gone. Fantastic hockey player but sh!tty teammate. |

“I didn’t really get the chance to chat a lot with him. I don’t think he’s a bad person when you get to know him, but all I can say is that he’s not Sidney Crosby either.”

This city has the 2nd biggest inferiority complex in North America besides Canada. If McDavid had a few championships by now, this fanbase would hate him, just because they lost out on him to Eichel, which, on top of everything, ended badly.

No we wouldn't. We wouldn't hate him. We would be upset that he's "the one that got away" and be even more upset about Eichel.
This is quite a ridiculous take. |
