He's going to be decent, just was already ranked later than that so wasn't going to be our selection. Brink, Kaliyev, Pinto or Hoglander would've all been nicer options and in range IMO.

The question is why do you "owe" the team that drafted you?

I personally think the rights shouldn't expire at all. The NHL team tenders the player an ELC and after the current length of time where the rights are protected whether it's college, Junior, or overseas you should be able to sign anywhere, but it's like an offer sheet. Everyone wins in that situation.

- Wetbandit1

the rights should NEVER expire for any reason. The player should be required to sign with the organization that drafted him. The Player should not have an option to ever become a UFA without ever getting a NHL contract to begin with. that is BS, IMO,

it amazes me why more College Players don't expose that loophole. They get to play 4 years of competitive Hockey live like kings on Campus and get a degree, then get to sign with whoever they want to. Seems like a no brainer to me. But it taint right...

Uhm cause they made the selection for you... The player deserves nothing. Especially not just choosing whatever team cause they held out for 4 years. Its a loophole.
- DirtyDan

It's not really a loophole, you're giving up prime earning years when you do that. Though now with NIL you can at least scrape something together if you go to school in a big hockey town. It's not all upside for the player. That and other teams may be wary of signing you when you publicly say you don't want to go to a certain team. What happens when your team(that signs the player) hits a rough patch? Is he going to want out right away?

Take it up with the PA, they seem to be fine with it.

I agree, that's why I laid out a system where everyone wins.

No you aren't. You are giving up ELC's and the first year of a RFA contract to go straight to UFA status and sign with whatever team for whatever amount of money

Sabres went nowhere with ROR, now have a player that fits their timeline.

The Blues got their cup, the Sabres got a potential top 6 Center for the next decade.

I didn’t fall into any trap, you busted a nut before you could get your zipper off. Next time maybe wait a couple years to proclaim winners and losers of a trade ?

Or are you saying you’d rather have a 31 year old ROR over a 24 year old Tage Thompson ?

- Pegullaville

Stanley Cup or tank, right?
🤣🤣🤣

It’s also sad that coming here & responding to me is the first thing on your mind when u wake up

StL with ROR= won a Cup
Sabres with Tage= haven’t accomplished anything yet
U going toe to toe with me= well, we all know how that turns out

Well, Reinhart sucks and doesn't try and both VO and Chuckle(frank) can't even come close to equaling Reinhart by himself, so... yeah, pretty undisputed.
- Wetbandit1

There's probably 3 or 4 people I just don't respond too.

You're one of them.

Reinhart no longer
He gone to Florida now
You miss him dearly

Well, if you would've come out after one year of college you'd have already finished your ELC and been on to your bridge deal or big contract by the time you would've graduated you could be talking about $10M-$15M. And in contact sports taking the guaranteed money is always the positive EV play. Where's an example of a player betting on themselves by taking a short deal and winning? Subban? Reinhart maybe, but he's already lost a bunch of money and won't be able to cash in for 3 more years.

When this pick was made, everyone on this Board (loosely, everyone so did don't get your panties in an uproar about that comment), were vocal about that was crappy pick and it had NOTHING to do with ROR.

There was a lot of hate for Johnson.

Hell of a magic trick to respond to say you don't respond.

(frank) off, dumbass

There's a reason I don't engage with you 95% of the time

Even more of a waste of internet ink than fitz

Jimmy Vesey Disagrees.

he has literally gone backwards.

if he would of signed after his 1st or 2nd year in college he would of made more money IMO.

I meant in total. I was adding the years up at like $5M-$6M; a decent bridge deal.

Proably not.

He would have started with a lower cap. Shown he wasn't good earlier. And not made nearly 5mil from NYR.

He also got the max rookie deal from NY instead of getting a lesser rookie deal like regular 3rd rounders do.

This, betting on yourself can work but it's an incredible longshot.
