Yea he is another bad signing, hopefully after this year deHaan and Gusto are gone, and in a year or 3 him and Murphy become the 3rd pairing for this team.

In rookie dmen news around the league:

I see Jokiharju gets plenty TOI even after Power the rookie arrived..But last game Samuelson did not dress after getting about 20 TOI avg.lately..

The parts of 2 games I've seen since Power joined the Sabres hes's been paired with Joki. .......Powers's first game was v TOR and the kid had 18:00ish TOI v the Matthews line and was on the PK. They've thrown the kid right in there.

Buffalo is a real fun team to watch right now and Granato seems to pull all the right levers. A Granato type would be wonderful as Hawks next coach. .... And those fans deserve it too after a decade of unwatchable hockey.

It was StanBow bringing Gus back every yr. We're gonna see what KD thinks of him soon enough......... How many Mitchell, Vlasic, Regula, Kalynuk, Beaudin rookies they gonna run with on the NHL roster next yr? 2-3?.... Do they decide they'll
keep em all down to ripen/over ripen?

Guess that will decide whether a Gus comes back or if or how many vets like Murphy/McCabe they move. Is Stillman ready to take on being in the lineup everyday skating 18-19:00 a night?

Darth was almost totally kidding. Gotta leave some wiggle room there. I can't see KD bringing Gus back and I'd rather see Stillman getting a regular shift and Gus playing for someone in our division. The last couple games, Riley has looked more like he did before he was injured.

I don't see KD bringing him back, to me it looks like this team is playing a more physical brand of hockey as the season has gone on and i don't think Gus fits KDs vision

I agree with you and think that's his vision as well. Even though the Hawks lost was nice to see some pushback today. To your point, the guys that he's traded for all have some of that "tough to play against" element to their game.

Yo Theo, not sure if you saw this and inserted it into a blog of yours but Hawk's draft pick goalie Dominic Basse has transferred from Colorado College to powerhouse St Cloud State.

I know it's difficult with injuries, but I'd really like to see at least some consistent defensive pairings next season. Hard to learn your partners tendencies when you keep reshuffling the line ups

A good part of this year Kaner looked injured. It was a mysterious chronic injury. He was going to try to play through it. He seems to be flying now. Any updates on his health?

2023 Draft watch:

With two assists last night, Connor Bedard is now up to 95 points in 61 games.

It's been 35 years since we've seen a U17 skater in the WHL hit that mark

2022 Draft watch:
I have been pretty much limited putting up my thoughts because I figured I will make the you tube mock guys form "their opinions" with me as the source, but after all my take about that 2023 class I figured I had to balance Ammit's scales right now:
Shane Wright
The right shooting centre-forward already looks like a future impact NHLer. The question is whether he is a true generational player or not. He is a superb natural goal scorer who displays an almost blurry quick release. Reads the ice extremely well with his great vision, and his four direction skating ability aids the completion of attacks. Has a "complacent speed" that lulls the opposing defenders and creates more time for him to go into a cut at a higher speed. His skating is a clinic on how to constantly adjust edging, as he shifts weight into edges to torque off ice with great feel (and he is not a Hughes brother). He draws coverage to him, while he holds the puck that extra second and finds an open man. His defensive prowess comes with the fact that with his terrific hands and stick, he can steal a puck in all three zones on each shift. Uses his tremendous feet to cut across the grain with deceptive lateral cuts. His top and separation gear allows him to blow past the opposition. Has terrific hand - eye coordination, and is able to receive passes that are tight in on his feet and accurately fire them on net without pucks going off target. Sure, this year has seen him never hitting all the cylinders but he is 4 inches taller than 2023 Conor Bedard and already plays a disciplined two-way game in THREE zones and gets physically involved on the wall and forecheck. Some team is going to be very happy getting him first overall. Was the captain of the Canada’s 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship team.

I owed you guys this after I showed disappointment with idea the Blackhawks might win the first choice in the 20222 Lottery.

It gets very interesting the way any team lines up at center behind Wright. His impact seems great whether or not he puts all facets of his game together as a rookie.

Teams should be leary of having two big time talents at forward yet look at how Edmonton has failed as a team for many years.

Edmonton like Chicago has drafted some first round and other prospects on defense. Wait and see how they pan out.

I don't know what anyone might weigh in on the St Louis Blues. How will they fare in the playoffs. Does Dallas or Nashville get in. I would have to surmise that both Nashville and St Louis might not advance to second round of playoffs due to their goaltending. And of course knocking off a #1 seed.

Minnesota is good, an improved team But they cannot expect to go through end of season and all of playoffs often in OT. There is no shootout in playoffs. Minny could wear down. I am.not convinced that Fluery would steal games. He might have some key moments and win some games. But a hot goaltender staying hot and really focused usually has to be the guy in net, and not sharing with Talbot. Is Minny keeping both fresh for playoffs then will they go with Fluery?

I have noticed Samuelson back in last two games and Butcher out. Don't know particulars, such as injuries.

Why I bring this up? It is very interesting with Dahlin coming around as very good, add big Power to defense and the.giant Samuelson who could be solid defensively, mean enough and has that big wingspan with stick (as does Power). They could become a formidable top three and Jokiharju playing better now too.

Now segway to Chicago defencemen

Look.into the crystal ball. Can you see Mitchell as solid. And BOTH Vlasic and Regula playing here and better in some ways than the weak DeHahn, weak Gus, and inconsistent C Jones? Toss in Galvas, maybe not Kalynuk as starters. Murphy and McCabe eventually gone. Depends how soon if they are not better under the helm of a new coach

I really will go out on limb and say I like the game that farther away Crevier, Kaiser could.bring. Phillips is a darkhorse.

Who makes up the Hawks defense next year? Vlasic has been good, but for his development I’d expect him to be in Rockford in 22/23.

S. Jones
Murphy
McCabe
Stillman
Regula / Rotating Rockford d-man
Mitchell / Rotating Rockford d-man
C. Jones or Gus - re-signed to be the 7th d-man

New blog! An early look at what Kirby Dach's next contract with the Blackhawks may look like now that he's out with an injury.

Also, thoughts on prospects like Dominic Basse transfering to new programs.
