Man...this blog's comments section has been gold...and really, Jonathan Pies is a major reason why.

Thanks JP!

Just glad an old, clueless individual can still be of some use.

You aren't wrong that Wilson bashes the hell out of people with analytics, you were just never going to win with saying Jack Johnson was good on the Pens board lol. All the main stay posters watch the games on our board and not one thinks he was good. Ok maybe Barnaby but he gives everyone a chance lol

I feel like Goc didn’t really exist. He was just a figment of our imagination. That last name doesn’t even sound real.
- j.boyd919

He was real, and it took awhile for you guys to admit despite his “underlying numbers” he sucked.

He’d probably still give him another chance for league minimum.

I’ve been so bad at following college hockey the last few years. The new timezone is a lot more conducive to catching these kinds of things though. End of work day white noise I can just throw on. Just got back into ND hoops for the first time in like two years. Gonna try harder on ND hockey next year.

They definitely don’t make it easy to follow. I looked into getting the BTN streaming package to watch Michigan but it’s such a mess.

Zucker and mcginn out tonight. I would of liked to see how the pens do vs the rangers with zucker in the lineup but I guess it will have to be a surprise come playoffs.

ND has that NBC deal so they’re actually not hard to watch. Not every game is televised but a lot are. IDK how that landscape will change if/when NBC picks up the Big 10 and they have to spread the wealth for college sports but for right now NBCSN (I guess now USA) airs all home games.

Most sports movies suck. But it sure beats watching frozen 300 times.

The list of sports movies I legitimately think are great might begin and end with Varsity Blues.

Major League is pretty great. I know it's a comedy and not a serious movie, but it's a great sports movie nonetheless.

Look I'm an eye test over charts guy. I'm not interested in defending Johnson, I was using him because this idiot Wilson is always using his charts and stats to prove a players worth. When Johnson doesn't look bad Mr.Wilson is quiet. Wilson is one of these progressive b.s. artist that actually believe there is no use for any evaluation that is not completely based on analytics. I believe that analytics are a tool. It does not tell the whole story. So my reason for commenting was Wilson didn't have much to say about Johnson his favorite whipping boy when the Avs obviously think he is a NHL player and are increasing his playing time. So its Wilson and his my charts make me smart attitude that gets to me. He scoffs at any physical part of the game and mocks players that play that style. Players that don't pass the stat test are not important to team success. If watching Johnson you think he sucks fine just don't roll out charts and tell me here is prove.

I will give an example using my team. Last year and part of this year I keep hearing
how Grzelcyk and McAvoy are stat wise a top pair among NHL defensemen. All the fancy analytics. But to me Grzelcky is no way a top pair defensemen. The charts show all kind of top stats. But in reality no matter what the completed first pass, zone exit stats say he can't defend against the big boys. He can't kill penalties, he gets pushed around, doesn't hit, can't defend himself. So if you are a strict analytic guy he is top pair. But if your a eye test reality guy no way. He is good but just not big or strong enough to be top pair. So the charts and advanced stats are helpful but it is not the end all that this new progressive genius makes it out to be. Sometimes traditional is smarter.

All of those besides Raging Bull are comedies which are totally different from the typical sappy sports drama formula that I’m talking about.

I’ve actually never seen Raging Bull or moneyball so I can’t comment on those.

Yeah there’s really only like 15 top pair D in the league.
